SDCC 2017 Marvel Legends Exclusive Set Revealed & Photos!

I’ve been so absorbed for the fast few months with preparing for, attending and recovering from the awesomeness that was Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017, that I sort of forgot that that San Diego Comic-Con 2017 was less than three months away! But luckily, while I plum forgot one of the biggest shows of the year for toy manufacturers, Hasbro has not–the SDCC 2017 Exclusive Marvel Legends set has now been revealed, featuring Lady Thor, Malekith, Ulik and more!

SDCC 2017 Marvel Legends Exclusive Thor Box Set

With the “Thor Ragnarok” movie set to be released this fall, I’ve long suspected that the Marvel Legends SDCC 2017 exclusive box set would be a comics-based, Thor-themed set. But while I’m far from surprised to see the theme of this box in these photos that surfaced online over the weekend, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t totally hyped for some of the figures that are included in it!

Note that the figures seen in these photos are all production samples, so they have numbers printed across their heads. The actual figures released at San Diego Comic Con 2017 will (obviously) not have number sprawled across their foreheads (breathe easy).

Marvel Legends SDCC 2017 Lady Thor Jane Foster FigureBased off of modern Thor comic books (including the Jason Aaron “War of Realms” classic), this set will give us an early release of the first-ever Marvel Legends Lady Thor Jane Foster 6″ figure, as well as debut figures for three other major characters!

Marvel Legends Odinson SDCC 2017 Exclusive FigureWhile the premiere 6″ Lady Thor is obviously the centerpiece of this set, of equal importance is the Marvel Legends Odinson figure–the first “Unworthy Thor” six inch figure.

Both ML Lady Thor and Odinson will be available at mass retail in the fall Marvel Legends Thor Ragnarok series in the fall, but if you want this long-awaited duo early (and who doesn’t?), you’ll have to get them from the 2017 SDCC in July.

SDCC 2017 Marvel Legends Malekith FigureIt’s a real shame that the next figure isn’t expected to be released at mass retail, though, because I have really been jonesin’ for a Marvel Legends Malekith figure for years now, and I know many other fans have been as well (seeing as how he’s the main villain in Thor The Dark World and a classic comic book villain and all).

It’s not 100% confirmed that Malekith won’t be getting a mass release, but it doesn’t seem likely at this time.

Marvel Legends Bor Figure SDCC 2017

Rounding out the set are two more characters well-known to major fans of the Thor mythos (although perhaps not casual fans): Marvel Legends Bor and Ulik!

Odin may be the Allfather, but Bor is Odin’s father! Doomed to be killed by his own grandson, Bor is a significant character within comic book continuity (and Thor’s family tree), but also one only diehard fans will want–I doubt many will be upset if he remains exclusive to this exclusive SDCC 2017 Thor set permanently.

Marvel Legends Ulik Figure from San Diego Comic-Con 2017 Exclusive SetI expect the Marvel Legends Ulik figure to be in the Ragnarok wave as the Build-A-Figure, but that hasn’t been confirmed at this point.

I’ll post updates here and to the Marvel Toy News Facebook and Twitter Pages once more details regarding this set’s confirmed release and price are made available, and I’ll also send out alerts via social media when the set goes live on Hasbro Toy Shop for online orders after the convention.

Now that we’ve seen the Marvel Legends SDCC 2017 exclusive set, what do you think of it, Marvel collectors? Are you psyched to line up at the convention (or F5 on your computer after the show) to get this box set, or are you satisfied skipping this set and waiting for the Thor Ragnarok Marvel Legends wave in the fall?

SDCC 2017 Marvel Legends Exclusive Set Revealed & Photos! — 30 Comments

  1. Thor is my favorite Marvel hero, and I AM LOVING THIS SET ugh I need it in my life now.

  2. Yeah, I’m gonna be broke, I’m going on vacation the weekend of SDCC so I won’t be able to pick it up off of HTS, Hopefully I don’t get scalped too hard on ebay

  3. Wow, underwhelming and completely missed the mark. Thor is my all time favorite comic and they fail to once again give us a classic Thor. I am relieved this is not an X men themed exclusive but I think this will be the first exclusive I pass on for marvel legends. The whole year has been that way for legends this year and I hope at least the reveal at this summers sdcc are better.

    • i so definitely been waiting for a classic thor figure (even got rid of my select and giant man wave ones). I Have Faith we will see him soon enough (also a classic iron man with the grim reaper buck since the one of the iron man 3 wave is so small).

      • Honestly, I don’t think the stock Grim Reaper body would be right for a Classic Armor Iron Man. It honestly might be a tad bit TOO bulky. Personally, I’ve been thinking either the Namor version of the Grim Reaper body (aka slightly thinner torso, the rest is the same), the ANAD Spidey 2099 body, and the Spider-UK body. I can’t decide which one would be the best choice, all of them have advantages and disadvantages.

  4. How much woyld each figure be sold??

Will one or another be limited quantity??

  5. Malekith looks like the winner in this set and I would get it just for him. I’m not too excited about Lady Thor and Odinson since we know they will be released this fall.

    • Yea. That’s frustrating me.
Fight to get Malekith and Bor….and then get stuck with figures that are almost definitely going to be redundant.
      Kind of a lose-lose scenario…

      • That would make more sense, but earlier rumors and leaks suggest the BAF is Skurge The Executioner.

There are rumors of a second entire Thor Ragnarok wave, in which case Gladiator Hulk will DEFINITELY be included in one of the waves, either as the BAF or just a figure.
There’s no way in hell they release two Thor waves and not release the Gladiator Hulk somehow in one of them.

  6. Easy pass. I don’t care for Unworthy Thor or Jane Foster Thor-ette. I can easily skip Bor since I’ve never read stories featuring the character. Ulik and Malekith are the only ones I recall from my years as a comic fan and reader enough to consider “classics.” In regards to Malekith, I never even followed Simonson’s Thor run that faithfully to begin with. The most I remember is Kurse breaking his neck while he was disguised as Balder. Props to Hasbro for giving collectors another classic, yet mostly unknown character, though.

One less headache to worry about this summer and even lesser pain for my wallet.

  7. All of this year’s waves have leaked out and the baf of the Thor wave is movie Gladiator Hulk. It’s rumors but these are almost always true with a few exceptions. Also the Marvel Knights wave has a Man-Thing baf!

    • It’s easy to take known semi-confirmed UPC database listings as a grain of truth and then throw best guesses around that information to make up your own fake list. I’m just sayin’.

      • Well they have weird specific things that make me think its true. like the motorcycle sets, having gladiator hulk in there as a baf even though executioner was rumored, and having a stan lee baf distributed in 3-packs, which is unprecedented. So I tend t believe it.

    • You’re not BSing me are you because I really love Man Thing. And I also heard that wave will finally give us Blade.

  8. So the Thor figure here will still see mass release, right? I believe she and Odinson/Unworthy Thor were said to be part of the Ragnarok wave.

If that’s the case is this gonna be the only chance to get Ulik, Malekith and Bor?

    • Correct–Jane Foster Thor and Odinson will be mass release later in the fall. These are just the early release for them.

I haven’t heard anything about Malekith or Bor being released outside this set (which is sort of a shame since Malekith is a quasi-big name).

  9. Some of the negativity here is hilarious and outrageous. This is the PERFECT SDCC exclusive, as was last year’s. A couple early releases/re-releases of popular characters, plus some obscure characters that would never have seen a mass release. Not personally upset, but the only thing rubbing me the wrong way is Malekith – considering he is a top-tier Thor villain. But, hey, it’s not like they’re reserving an iconic hero for an SDCC box set like they did Luke Cage.

  10. Wow I really do hope that Malekith is released on his own later on…looks great!

  11. i’m big believer that SDCC “exclusive” should mean exclusive. It makes the price tag worth it! Not a fan of packaging soon to be retailed figures. BUT, this packaging all but makes up for it! Looks like a must have for my collection.

    • I agree with the first statement. Exclusive should mean that you cannot by part of it in the store. I get every marvel and Star Wars exclusive with ease and sometimes I even by multiples, but for the price I pay I feel not every collector should be able to own it. If you can’t get it then oh well. That’s what makes it exclusive.

  12. Yay…. Ulik? I guess?

I don’t care about the rest. And She-Thor can go to Hela.
