Marvel Legends Mysterio Figure Restock Up for Pre-Order Now!

UPDATE (1/17/2019): Well here’s a bit of a (very welcome) surprise! Even though it’s been close to a year since the Spider-Man Marvel Legends Lizard wave began hitting retail in winter 2018, demand for at least one figure in the wave was simply never met and aftermarket prices soared. But seeing as how he’s set to be featured in this summer’s second-biggest superhero flick, Hasbro must have figured now was the time to strike with an upcoming restock: the Marvel Legends Mysterio figure is back up for pre-order online now!

Marvel Legends Mysterio Figure 2018 Lizard Series

ORIGINAL (2/1/2018): Over the course of the last several weeks, the second Marvel Legends 2018 series (which happens to be first Spider-Man Legends Wave of the year) has begun popping up frequently internationally (including in nearby Canada). This has left loads of U.S. collectors asking “Hey! Where’s my Marvel Legends?!” But have no fear and wait no longer: the Spider-Man Marvel Legends Lizard Series of 6” figures is now up for order!

LIZARD SERIESIt was just one month ago that we got the first 2018 Marvel Legends Wave—the Black Panther Movie series—but it sure feels like eternity, doesn’t it? Thankfully, the (not really) “drought” is over, and Hasbro has finally given the go-ahead for stores to open pre-orders for the first Spider-Man Legends figures of the year!

For those who need a reminder (because we started seeing this wave revealed way back in July 2017), this is the Lizard Build-A-Figure series that contains single-packed figures of Spider-Man Noir, Mysterio, Prowler, Lasher, Spider-Punk, Gwenpool and Spider-Woman.

Marvel Legends Prowler Figure PackagedI think the case ratios for this particular series of Marvel Legends Spider-Man 2018 Wave 1 figures may be a bit controversial:

  • (2) Gwenpool
  • (1) Spider-Punk
  • (1) Prowler
  • (1) Mysterio
  • (1) Lasher
  • (1) Spider-Woman
  • (1) Spider-Man Noir

Marvel Legends Gwenpool Figure PackagedIn what I think is a really surprising pick, the Marvel Legends Gwenpool figure is the double-packed figure in these cases. With Gwenpool being totally unrelated to Spider-Man and having her comic book cancelled for low sales, heavy-packing her in one of the first ML cases of 2018 worries me quite a bit.

Spider-Man Noir or Mysterio seem like they would have been much safer picks, so it’ll be really interesting to see if the Unbelievable Gwenpool lives up to Hasbro’s sales expectations.

Marvel Legends Mysterio Figure PackagedThe 2018 Marvel Legends Spider-Man Wave 1 Lizard Series is now up for order, and should be shipping out very quickly. I haven’t heard any reports of these leaking out into brick-and-mortar stores in the United States just yet, but if you’ve seen them locally, please leave a comment and let your fellow collectors know!

Now that we’ve seen final packaged photos and the figures are officially available for order, what’s your assessment of this wave, Marvel collectors? Do you think Gwenpool was the right choice to double-pack? Which figures (if any) will you be picking up from this wave, and which are your priorities?

Marvel Legends Mysterio Figure Restock Up for Pre-Order Now! — 42 Comments

  1. Dabid ya killing me! When has Hasbro EVER double packed a villian? I’ll grant you I’m just as surprised as you because when have they ever double packed a female? Also, when have they ever double packed the best figure in a wave? Their track record shows the obvious double pack choice is….LASHER! LOL

  2. Gwenpool double-packed? Meh. I would have gone for either Mysterio or Spider Woman for the Double Packing, but sadly the lack of accesories for Jessica Drew may not be enough to convince everyone, so Mysterio would be my pick. I really do not care enough for Spider Noir or Spider Punk to have them as double packed figures. Also, I do not like the body molds for the symbiotes either, I think Diamond Select versions are much better. Prowler might get my attention, but we’ll see. Lizard? I like that figure very much, but I already own the Marvel Select one, so I will not be ordering a whole box. The X-men Legends series though, those are quite good recently.

  3. Just my opinion…but man, does this seem like a weak wave. Mysterio is the only one I’m really interested in, and Jessica Drew won’t be hard to find for cheap later on, I feel.

    • I think this wave is more geared toward modern collectors, with the two Spider-Verse variants, modern Lizard and Spider-Woman, and Gwenpool. Not much here for the classic fans but Mysterio and a great Prowler. (Who doesn’t love Prowler? 😉 )

  4. I plan to pick up all of this wave, with Lasher being the only one who falls flat for me, and Gwenpool being the second least interesting. I might just keep the BAF pieces from them.

I am very disappointed in the lack of accessories in this wave. Nothing for Prowler, Spider-Woman, or Lasher, and just two guns or two effects for Noir and Mysterio, it feels like most of the accessories budget went to Gwenpool – the only fig with an alternate head, who also gets 2 sets of alt hands and 3 accessories.

At the least, Spider-Woman should have “venom blast” hands. The positioning of the one hand actually makes it look like she’s designed to grab something, so I’m wondering if they were trying to make her compatible with Black Widow’s motorcycle.

    • Venom Blast effect pieces for Spider-Woman wouldn’t even have to be developed, the lightning effect pieces displayed with this year’s Storm figure would work perfectly here, as well

  5. I would have assumed Spider-Punk would be the obvious choice to double pack. Gwenpool is a dumb-ass character, but I always like when Marvel Legends makes a NEW character. Mysterio is definitely gonna be the hardest one to find. And I gotta say, those guns for Noir are sooo stupid. Star Trek blasters??? C’mon man, make a revolver for him.

The 2nd 2018 Spider-man wave with single carded Doc Ock and SP//DR BAF; oh boy! I can’t wait to see how they try to top that series 8 Doc Ock, which is pretty much perfection. That wave is gonna be AWESOME; although Cloak & Dagger should have been a 2-pack (for obvious reasons). Looks like another good year and another attack on my wallet from Hasbro.

  6. Mysterio, Mysterio, and Mysterio. And maybe Spider-man Noir, but I’d be ok if I missed out on that one.

  7. Woah, woah, we are finally getting a new Doc Ock? (Please, be classic as possible). And yes, Droppo, I second you: Mysterio, Mysterio, Mysterio! He should have been double-packed. Everything else is dumb (except Prowler), but I’m a classic kind of guy. It’s all worth it for the Lizard: buy the case, sell the rest.

  8. Entertainment Earth says April and is $160 for 8 figures, shipping included. It also says estimated date and subject to change. BigBadToyStore says February and with shipping is $160 for 7. Hopefully EE doesn’t make me wait until April.

    • Just FYI, Dorkside has also offers 8 for $160 or 7 for $145 (free shipping) if you aren’t interested in the double-packed fig. I have had good experiences with EE in the past and haven’t used Dorkside but have heard good things

  9. Can’t really buy a full set at retail for financial reasons but would defintely like to get Mysterio, Spider-Punk, and Gwen-Pool. Lasher and Spider-woman are passes for me. Prowler and Noir I would consider picking up if the price was right. So probably no Lizard for me! He looks very cool (I don’t mind the dinosaur head and crazy tongue) but the reviews I’ve seen suggest he is somewhat limited in terms of posing. I do think its great that Hasbro really digs deep into spider-lore with these waves. I can understand the decision to forgo making Spider-Punk the double-pack since there are more spider-man figures coming out with the IW wave, etc.

  10. I live in ny and started picking up Mysterio with white head,lasher,Spider-Man noir, and Gwenpool, at Walgreens

  11. I’m going to order the whole wave but I’m not a fan of the Lizard BAF… So he’ll go up for sale or trade. I know nothing about Gwenpool but she seems like a weak and waste of a character. Don’t like the new Spiderwomans costume. Spiderman Noir…meh. Spiderpunk will go to my son. So basically Mysterio,Lasher and Prowler are the keepers for me.

As for a doublepack…I think the right choice was Mysterio!

  12. I’ve found half of them at Walgreens. I got excited when Brickseek showed a restock of the Spiderman series at Walmart, rushed down to find… the Sandman series being shelved again.

    • Sandman series is long gone around here. I’d definitely pick up a green goblin, symbiot spidey and ANAD 2099 if I saw that series being shelved again.

  13. I ordered mine from HasbroToyShop with free shipping and 20% off and that was the Spider-man noir figure. Not a bad deal!

  14. I guess when Mysterio is reviewed, it would be the right time to examine this, but what is with the head? It’s bad enough that there are two, white and green, but the tentacles emerging from a skull are ridiculous….I suppose it can be painted from the inside, in an opaque way, to better look like the comics…

  15. I got super lucky with these figures. I didn’t see all of the wave in person, but my priorities were Spider-Woman, Prowler, and Mysterio. The wave showed up a couple of times at Target for me when they were trying to clearance out the old wave…so…I got them for $10 each! Now it’s been a few weeks since I saw any of these figures.

    • Same thing happened to me in Philly. My mom was in Target, saw Gwenpool and picked her up thinking it was cool for me, and it was $10. Shame she didn’t pick up the rest. I went back and they were all gone.

  16. I managed to snag Spider-man Noir at retail price, but the Mysterio didn’t go into my shopping cart. It said it was at retail price, but others must have already cleaned it out before the price notice could change. Missed it by that much!

  17. Picked up Gwenpool on amazon before they showed up in hasbro toy shop… but then got spider-punk, noir, and prowler at HTS for 20% off (although I guess there was a St Pat day code before noon for 25% off, oh well). Still need Mysterio and Lasher, I don’t really care about Lasher much and assume I will be able to find him at a discount down the line.. and of course can’t finish Lizard without Mysterio anyhow, so hopefully if I keep checking I can get him for retail at least. Still, thanks for the announcement, Dabid.. and Happy St Patrick’s Day everyone

  18. Amazon had some Mysterio stock in briefly so snagged it but already back up to $40-50.

  19. Hasbro toy shop.com currently has most of the lizard wave (except mysterio), all of the avengers infinity war (including iron spider and cap), and the deadpool sasquatch baf wave (except cable) in stock for shipping. I just placed an order for 5 of the deadpool sasquatch figures. Wanted cable but of course he’s always oos. Picked up comic deadpool, x-force deadpool, x-23, domino & deathlock.

  20. Walked into a.Walgreens last night and the wave had just been freshly stocked. I couldn’t resist grabbing up a second Mysterio. Specially after that perview!

    • To my surprise, I too, came across a Mysterio earlier this week. I was debating whether to purchase it or not. It was the first time that I’ve ever seen one in a store; but I decided to pass up on it and let someone else have a chance to pick one up since I was fortunate to have purchased two of them from Amazon at MSRP.

  21. Am I the only one not riding this Mysterio’s disco stick??? The figure is bad. It looks fantastic in box BUT poor QC meant loose joints, a cape that is too stiff in structure and way to wobbly on the shoulders with a neck gap, weird tentacle accessories instead of smoke clouds (which would fit all iterations of the character)… Sorry but I just have no love for it despite it LOOKING decent. Which really sucks because I’m a big fan of Mysterio!

And to advise MCU fans, I’d bet a ton of money they will do a movie version. If you are jumping on the rerelease for the sake of have a Mysterio but are a movie fan and not as into the comics, I’d exercise patience here. It will come out in the Jake Gyllenhaal format, guaranteed.

    • I respectfully disagree on most counts. I like the cape being attached to his dome and haven’t noticed issues with a neck gap, at least in most of the posing i’ve done. Haven’t had loose joint issues (my old toybiz version definitely has those issues, mostly due to age). For smoke clouds just pull apart some cotton balls like everyone else. I’ll grant you the stiff cape but that’s not really a mysterio-specific issue, and at least he’s not a guy who’s always swinging around and leaping like Moon Knight, for whom you’d really want a cape that adjusts accordingly.

I do agree there will be an mcu mysterio. Given that the ML mcu vulture didn’t come with a keaton head, i wonder if we’ll be getting an unmasked Jake Gyllenhaal head or not.

      • Well, hey, to each their own. Suffice it to say I am happy to have a better proportioned Mysterio in my collection than the old toybiz figure, but the QC issues I dealt with really knocked the wind out of some of the luster and hype I had when the figure was announced.

I appreciate that your counterpoint was not as loaded with fury as someone else’s and my main reason for the somewhat pessimistic comment was that I truly think this timing relates to an attempt to cash in on the Far From Home preview and get non-comic figure collectors (i myself am the opposite) to shell out on a whim for a non movie figure before they inevitably announce a Gyllenhaal version and get another 20 bucks out of them. But if it is honestly to meet the demands of comic collectors who couldn’t get their hands on ol’ Quentin Beck, then more power to them.

        Happy Hunting!

  22. You seem to be the only one. Here’s you: “The figure LOOKS good, but when I play with it in the bathtub it sinks!!! It’s not my website, but there is a comment section and I wanna review toys too, so here’s my negative opinion and terrible advice..”

    • Ouch, bro. Sick burn. I’ll be crying in the bathtub tonight, sunken Mysterio in my lap, thinking up more terrible baseless advice to share in the vain attempt to hijack someone else’s website because I’m, like, super jealous.
