LEGO has done a commendable job keeping their sets for next year under wraps up until now, but as we approach the new year leaks were bound to be sprung–and one such leak occurred this weekend, when the Canadian Walmart website accidentally posted the first hi-res images of one of the LEGO Marvel 2014 sets. You’ll realize pretty quickly that this may not be the most impressive LEGO Marvel set ever, but the LEGO Spider-Man Spider-Car Pursuit 10665 still has a couple things in its favor…
Even so, this set still has some features that will make it attractive to LEGO and Marvel fans in general–primarily, the fact that this set is cheap and includes regular LEGO minifigures. With an expected price-point of $8-$12, a lot of collectors may find it worthwhile to pick up this set solely for the LEGO Venom minifigure and LEGO Ultimate Spider-Man minifigure included.
I think it’s a monumentally tragic missed opportunity that LEGO opted to create this LEGO Spider-Car instead of the doofy-yet-lovable Spider-Buggy from the classic Amazing Spider-Man comic books, but I can definitely see where a little kid would enjoy having Spider-Man drive this rocket-powered flying car. And hey, I really do like the LEGO web firing cannon and the tendrils that LEGO Venom can hold! I won’t be buying this, mind you (I already have LEGO Venom and Spider-Man figures), but it is a cute little set.
The 10665 LEGO Juniors Spider-Man: Spider-Car Pursuit set is scheduled to be released officially on January 1st, 2014. That said, there’s virtually no chance LEGO 10665 won’t be posted for sale early by online retailers like Amazon by mid-December 2013, so if you have a burning hire to own this set as soon as it’s released, be vigilant and you should be able to snag the LEGO Spider-Car Pursuit set before 2013 is over.
