I really thought that I had well and truly scoured the floor at New York Comic Con 2014 for every major Marvel collectible of interest at the show, but it seems that somehow, some way, I missed out on seeing the prototype of the 3A Toys Dr. Doom figure displayed at the show. I still have no clue where the ThreeA Doom was even on display at (as 3A Toys didn’t have a booth at the show), but it matters not anymore: the official photos have been revealed and the ThreeA Toys Doctor Doom sixth scale figure and its variants go up for order later this week!
When I first encountered the ThreeA Toys Doctor Doom figure at New York Toy Fair 2014, I wasn’t really sure what to make of it. The prototype was far from complete and missing its cape, and I wasn’t completely familiar yet with the 3A Toys style.
Eight months later, I still don’t find the Doctor Doom ThreeA Toys figure to be as compelling as their (as-yet still unreleased) Iron Man figures, but the alternate colorways for the figure have definitely helped me to warm up to it.
In addition to the “Classic Edition” Doctor Doom 1/6th figure, ThreeA Toys has a pair of variant Dr. Doom figures ready for us: a Dr. Doom Stealth Edition and a Doctor Doom Ghost Edition. I would presume that at least one of the three colorways (but very possibly two) will be exclusive to the Bambaland website.
The garish bright white Dr. Doom armor and cloak with gold detailing is just amazing in a fun and over-the-top way. If I end up ordering one of these Three A Toys Doom figures (and I’m leaning towards doing so), it will definitely be the white Ghost Edition Doom.
The 1/6 Dr. Doom 3A Toys figure is scheduled to go up for sale on Halloween Day–this Friday, October 31st! ThreeA hasn’t announced the pricing yet on Doom, but I’d expect the Doctor Doom figures to retail for right around $200 each, which is about average these days for a sixth scale figure. Stay tuned, as I’ll update here and to the Marvel Toy News Facebook Page as soon as ThreeA Toys announces the specific order details and pricing for each figure.
Now that we’ve seen the final prototype and its variants, how do you like the second ThreeA Marvel figure, Marvel fans? Are you clearing off a spot on your shelves for one (or three) of the most drastically redesigned Doctor Doom figures ever?
