If there’s one action figure line in all the land that keeps up with the current happenings in the Marvel Universe better than any other, it’s the Diamond Select Toys Marvel Minimates. So, even though the Avengers & X-Men: AXIS comic book series just wrapped up last month, DST already has a whole series of AXIS Marvel Minimates lined up for this summer! Headlined by Marvel Minimates Falcon Captain America and the Red Onslaught, the Marvel Minimates Wave 62 AXIS figures are now up for order!

Marvel’s AXIS crossover events received mixed reviews from critics and fans, but I thought it was one of the more solid “event” comics that Marvel has put out in quite some time. While the series probably didn’t have enough of an impact to spawn any Marvel Legends or Marvel Select figures, there was enough fun in the AXIS comic books that I want some toys for them.

And evidently, Diamond Select Toys agrees–because Marvel Minimates Wave 62 will be entirely themed around the AXIS event!

The two-packs making up Marvel Minimates Wave 62 are as follows:

• Sam Wilson Captain America (Falcon) vs. Red Onslaught (with transformation to Red Skull)
• Carnage (with alternate transforming Cletus head) vs. Hobgoblin (with alternate T-shirt torso)
• Superior Iron Man (with alternate open-face helmet) vs. Apocalypse
• Inverted Sabretooth vs. Inverted Kluh Hulk

Of the eight figures in these packs, the biggest deal is easily the Falcon Captain America Minimates figure. Although the Sam Wilson Captain America only debuted in the comics half a year ago, fans of the Captain America Falcon have already begun demanding a toy of the character. And while I think we will eventually see a Hasbro Marvel Legends Falcon Captain America (we better), DST is going to be drawing first blood on this one.

That’s not to say that the rest of this series is dull, however–the Wave 62 Minimates set is absolutely stacked with popular characters. The Red Skull/Red Onslaught is the main antagonist of the entire AXIS event, while the new modern Hobgoblin and Carnage Minimates are sure to be hot sellers.

On the mutant side of things, we’ll be getting a new Apocalypse and a new (inverted Sabertooth). Previous Minimate figures of these two are always in-demand, so these sometimes-villains should prove popular and help move their respective packs.

Closing out the series are two new concepts: the inverted Superior Iron Man Minimate and the Minimates Kluh, the inverted evil Hulk. I thought the story execution for Kluh was one of the lamest aspects of AXIS, and the inverted Tony Stark was utterly unlikely, but both characters were significant enough to the story to earn slots in this AXIS-themes wave.

The Marvel Minimates AXIS Wave 62 series is now available for order, and is scheduled to be released in June 2015. The set carries the usual $39.99 MSRP, but you can pre-order it for the discounted price of $33.99–only about $4.25 per figure!
