This week has been perhaps the busiest and the most loaded-down with hotly-anticipated new Marvel you announcements of any week I can recall. But while the past days have been absolutely bursting with hugely-popular new collectibles, one item in particular seems to be getting a bad rap and loads of criticism all-around. The Marvel Select Avengers Age of Ultron Hulk has been up for order for a while, but was only revealed this week. Is this upcoming figure really worth all the negativity being directed at it?

We’ve known for a while now that Diamond Select Toys would only be releasing a trio of Marvel Select Avengers Age of Ultron figures, with two of the figures being a repainted movie Marvel Select Thor and a retooled movie Marvel Select Hulk–but what we didn’t know was the identity of the third and final figure… until now. And while it isn’t a character that’s all-new for Avengers Age of Ultron, it’s a figure that’s a must for completing the core movie Avengers team: the Marvel Select Black Widow movie figure is now up for order!

Last week, rumors began to circulate that at least one Marvel Legends Ant-Man figure is in the pipeline and will be released at Target stores later this year. But as nice as the Hasbro Marvel Legends figures are, there’s one domestic action figure manufacturer that makes even more detailed and movie-accurate Marvel figures: Diamond Select Toys. And while it’s very unlikely that it’ll be more articulated than the eventual Ant-Man Marvel Legends figure, the Marvel Select Ant-Man figure is now up for order!

Back in August, a lot of Marvel Select collectors were outraged when an all-new, Disney Store Exclusive Marvel Select Electro figure was released… in a $50 two-pack with a generic Marvel Select Spider-Man figure. Diamond Select Toys couldn’t confirm at the time whether or not we’d ever seen a single-carded Electro Marvel Select figure hit store shelves, but seeing as every Disney Store Marvel Select exclusive ever has been released individually at one time or another, I had faith that we would. And for those who waited, your patience has paid off–the 7″ Marvel Select Electro figure is now available for order all by his lonesome!

If there’s one mass-release small-scale action figure company that we can count on to release some five-star figures for almost every Marvel movie released, it’s Diamond Select Toys. That said, fandom wasn’t exactly ablaze with love for the first Marvel Select Age of Ultron figure announced: a slightly retooled movie Hulk figure.

With the Avengers Age of Ultron trailer already being shown in theaters and online, it was only a matter of time until we saw the first pre-orders begin for Avengers Age of Ultron toys. But if you’d asked me to bet on which company would beat all their competitors to the punch by being the very first to put an Avengers 2 figure up for order, I would have definitely lost that bet. I spent the months leading up to this year’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie lamenting the fact that we were getting so few quality action figures for the movie–particularly in the form of a Marvel Select Amazing Spider-Man 2 Electro figure. But fate has smiled upon me–it turned out that I utterly hated Amazing Spider-Man 2 and wouldn’t want another toy of that movie Electro anyway. But what I would still want is a classic version of Electro, wearing my favorite green-and-yellow spiky mask. And what do you know? They say that good things come to those who wait. And if you were a fan of the movie version of The Falcon in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” in the spring, you’ve definitely had to wait for a quality action figure to be released. Hasbro missed the boat with no Marvel Legends Falcon figure and a mediocre 4″ Falcon, and the Hot Toys Falcon won’t be released until 2015. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel–an outstanding rendition of Anothony Mackie as the Falcon has now come home! The Marvel Select Falcon figure has now been released and is for sale online and in stores!

When the Marvel Select Unmasked Spider-Man figure from the Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie surfaced for sale a few weeks ago with no prior announcement whatsoever, I made a pretty big deal of how flabbergasted I was that Diamond Select Toys managed to secretly get a figure through design and production and into collectors’ hands without the secret leaking out. Well, they’ve done it again! Though it most likely wasn’t meant to appear just yet, a new Disney Store exclusive Marvel Select Savage Hulk figure has appeared for sale online this weekend!
