I feel like a total heel admitting it, but my vinyl figure collecting heart has wavered in 2014. I used to insist that all other vinyl lines were second-fiddle to Disney Vinylmation, but Funko has really captured my heart this year with their adorable unique sculpts and insane amount of releases. But while my Vinylmation collecting has been out on the back burner, there’s no way I wouldn’t take an interest in a whole set of Marvel-inspired Vinylmation figures hitting this week–the Disney Vinylmation Big Hero 6 series has now been released!
Disney was caught off-guard last year with Frozen’s success and managed to only release three limited-edition Frozen Vinylmation figures. Not wanting to leave good money in their guests’ wallets, Disney isn’t making that mistake again with the Big Hero 6: an entire Disney Vinylmation Big Hero 6 series of blind-box figures has been released this week at the Disney Stores and the Disney Parks!
Each tray of Disney Big Hero Six Vinylmation figures includes sixteen blind boxes, with the following case assortment:
- (3) Vinylmation Nurse Baymax Figures
- (2) Vinylmation Baymax (Armored) Figures
- (2) Vinylmation Hiro Hamada Figures
- (2) Vinylmation Fred Figures
- (2) Vinylmation Honey Lemon Figures
- (2) Vinylmation Go Go Tamago Figures
- (2) Vinylmation Wasabi no Ginger Figures
- (1) Vinylmation Yokai CHASER Figure
The Vinylmation Big Hero 6 Chaser figure packed at one-per-case is Yokai. This was a rather predictable “mystery chaser”, as we already knew that all six members of the team (including both versions of Baymax) were going to be in the set, leaving the movie’s villain, Yokai, as the only truly relevant character that could have been used as the chaser.
Yokai is also the only character in this series that doesn’t have a Funko POP! Vinyl counterpart, so there should be some extra demand for the Vinylmation Yokai chaser. If you want him with having to blind-box for him, good luck–Yokai is selling for $40+ on the aftermarket right now.
The Disney Vinylmation Big Hero 6 figure blind boxes and full cases are available online now, and are also being stocked at local Disney Stores (for those of you who still have local Disney Stores–mine all closed in the past year). Vinylmation figures aren’t made in the quantities that they used to be, so I’d be surprised if this limited run set is available for more than a month before selling out.
What do you think of the Disney’s Big Hero 6 Vinylmation series, Marvel collectors? Do you prefer these figures to Funko’s Big Hero 6 POP! Vinyls, or do you think Disney is taking a back seat to one of their own licensees as far as Big Hero Six vinyl figures go?
