Well that was fast, now wasn’t it? Over the weekend the first painted prototype images of the Figma Avengers Thor 6″ Figure surfaced from a Japanese magazine. Good Smile Company (the distributor of Figma figures) has now released hi-res images of the 6″ Figma Thor action figure, and pre-orders for the Figma Thor are now available! But while this is one mighty fine-looking Avengers Thor movie action figure, the price he comes at is mighty high…
And sure enough, The God of Thunder pre-orders have now opened up, confirming the imminent arrival of The Mighty Thor Figma in Summer 2014!
The movie Avengers Figma Thor action figure will stand 160mm (or about 6.3″ tall), so he’ll be scaled fairly well to fit with your preexisting Marvel Legends collection. Note that not all Figma figures outside of a specific line are in scale with each other, so Thor won’t necessarily be scaled to look right standing next to Figma Samus or Figma Link or whoever.
I initially thought that Thor’s cape was articulated based on the low-res magazine photos of Figma Thor, but I feel pretty stupid about that now–Thor’s cape is very obviously soft goods, and looks fantastic.
The bad news is that this Thor action figure will retail for 6,800 yen in Japan, but will cost around $79.99 via American stores carrying the import Thor. That’s a lot for a 6″ action figure.
Like many Figma action figures, Thor will include a flexible flight stand so that he can be posed in a flying position. Japanese figure flight stands like these usually sell for $10-$15 by themselves, so I’m glad that we’re getting a flight stand built into the ambitious cost of this movie Thor action figure.
In addition to the flight stand, Thor will come with several alternate hands and (of course) his Mjolnir hammer.
The weak point of this Thor action figure is unfortunately the Chris Hemsworth Thor likeness. The likeness to the actor is just not all that convincing, and from certain angles this looks more like Sean Bean as Ned Stark to me than it does Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Even so, the likeness is “good enough” that I can look past it and enjoy the figure the outstanding articulation and detailed costume.
The Avengers Figma Thor movie action figure is now available for order, and is expected to be delivered in July 2014. Import action figures do tend to have smaller print runs and sell out faster than their domestic counterparts, so you might want to think about locking in a pre-order for the Avengers Thor Figma figure within the next couple months if you definitely want one.
This is easily the best movie Thor action figure ever made in the 1/12 or smaller scale, and while he’s certainly nowhere near being “cheap”, I need this Thor figure in my collection so I went ahead and pre-ordered one. What about you, Marvel collectors? Do you still want this Thor action figure despite the stiff price-point, or is a $70-$80 6″ figure beyond where you draw the line?
