Funko Chrome Colossus POP Vinyl Exclusive Released & Review!

It’s been a longer wait than usual to get these convention exclusive Funko POP Vinyls, but the time has finally arrived today: the Glow-in-the-Dark She-Hulk and Chrome Colossus Funko POP Vinyls figures were released today! They’re available both at Stan Lee’s Comikaze 2016 con as well as at local Hot Topic stores, and they’ll set you back a mighty 15 smackers each. But does the POP Chrome Colossus meet my expectations? Read on…

Funko Chrome Colossus & GITD She-Hulk ReleasedThe Right:

Ever since they were announced at the end of September, I’ve seen Funko collectors fretting over this year’s Comikaze exclusive POPs and whether or not they’d be able to get them or have to pay a mint to scampers to have their very own GITD She-Hulk and Chrome-covered Colossus figures.

Based off the semi-wide availability of previous Comikaze POPs, I was convinced Colossus and She-Hulk would be no problem to walk into Hot Topic and pick up today on release day.

And as it turns out–I was totally right. My nearest Hot Topic still had over a dozen of each figure when I got there today at noon, with zero scalpers or other collectors anywhere to be found.

Chrome Colossus Funko POP Vinyls ReleasedI got to casually take my time and pick out the POP Vinyls with the best paint jobs (as far as I could tell) and check out at my leisure. Wonderful availability and ease of getting these–nice work, Hot Topic.

Glow in the Dark She-Hulk POP Vinyls FigureI won’t review Shulkie, as she’s just your standard “Glow in the Dark” variant of the regular version with no other changes, but let’s talk about this Chrome Colossus vinyl figure!

Chrome Colossus Funko POP Vinyl Figure UnboxingWhereas usually con exclusives are just variants, this Comikaze Colossus POP figure is an all-new mold that has unique number designation #183–which, coincidentally, puts him right after Mohawk Storm and the rest of the new X-Men Pops! This has to be one of the best exclusives ever.

Funko Colossus Chrome POP Vinyls Figure ComikazeThe chrome plating on this Funko POP Colossus looks absolutely awesome. Hasbro doesn’t really do chrome on their figures any more–not even Captain Phasma or C-3PO–but I sure wish that they would.

Back of Funko POP Colossus Chrome VariantColossus looks downright amazing in chrome, and it’s a pity that next year’s Marvel Legends Colossus figure will just be painted regularly.

Funko Comikaze Exclusive Chrome Colossus POP Vinyl in BoxThe “punching” pose on this new version of Colossus looks dynamic and is far superior to the museum pose of the original version–if you don’t already have the first version, there’s really no reason to bother with it now.

Funko POP Vinyls X-Men Chrome Colossus 183 FigureThe Wrong:

Funko’s quality control has taken a major step forward by leaps and bounds in the last few years, but some messy paint will still slip out from time to time.

Colossus’s paint deco absolutely isn’t bad–but I’d be lying if I said that it was perfect. There’s some tiny imperfections on his left boot and on his torso that set off my OCD when I’m up-close, and I picked the best one in the store to begin with.

If you have the opportunity to choose from a multitude of these at your local Hot Topic, I’d recommend doing so–this figure is just too cool to be ruined by messy paint apps.

Marvel Legends Juggernaut vs. Funko Chrome Colossus POPOverall: Sometimes Funko’s exclusives can be a bit underwhelming–but not this time! The Funko POP Vinyls Chrome Colossus figure is the complete other end of the spectrum, and is one of the best-looking standout figures in my entire Marvel POPs collection. There’s a couple areas on his costume where the paint isn’t perfect, but this is otherwise among my favorite Funko Marvel figures ever. Well worth my (and your) 15 bucks.

  1. I’m really disappointed that he is PLASTIC! Not Vinyl. I think he looks amazing! But for the $15 price tag… NOPE
