Guardians of the Galaxy was a rare heavily-promoted blockbuster summer movie that really and truly did surprise almost everyone with its success and quality. And while most merchandisers were banking on Rocket Raccoon and/or Star-Lord to become everyone’s favorite characters from the film, the runaway favorite character from the movie turned out to be the most-loved tree man ever: Groot! And to celebrate the beloved Guardians of the Galaxy mid-credits scene, a Funko Dancing Baby Groot POP! Vinyls figure is now up for pre-order!

As one of those braggart people who can say that they loved the Guardians of the Galaxy before the Guardians of the Galaxy were cool (or before 98% of the general public knew who the hell the Guardians of the Galaxy were period), I was exceptionally confident that the movie was going to be a smash hit.

What I wouldn’t have forecasted was that the most marketable character in the film would have turned out to be Groot.

What with the movie featuring one of Chris Pratt’d best performances ever (as the comedic gold Star-Lord) and a psychopathic, genius anthropomorphic raccoon, it never even crossed my mind that the botanical tree man Groot from Planet X would steal the show.

But as it so happens, the vast majority of people I’ve spoken to and read reviews from online are absolutely enchanted by Groot, and the dancing Baby Groot in a pot scene that was used mid-credits has become a total craze among fans (thankfully not to the extent of the “Let it Go” craze from Frozen).

The potted Groot dancing scene is insanely over with comic book fans and moviegoers this year, and as usual, Funko is poised to capitalize! Dancing Groot will be the ninth (and likely final) figure released in the Funko Guardians of the Galaxy POP! Vinyls line, which already includes a number of sold-out and hard-to-find figures. As Funko POP! Vinyls figures requires zero articulation (the bobblehead head doesn’t count) and limited paint deco, Funko will be the first to market with a dancing Groot toy.

Funko’s Dancing Groot POP Vinyls figure won’t be able to actually dance, mind you (I’m sure some other licensee is working on that right now), but at least baby Groot’s head will be able to bob all over when touched! While I wasn’t as captivated by the dancing potted Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie as some, the baby Groot Funko POP! Vinyl figure is adorable and a must-have for my collection (especially at a retail price of right around 10 bucks).

The Baby Groot dancing Funko POP Vinyls figure should be available for pre-order within the next few days, and is scheduled to be released in late 2014/early 2015. I’ll post an update to the Marvel Toy News Facebook page once the Funko Dancing Groot POP Vinyl figure goes up for order, so keep your eyes peeled if you want one.
