Back at San Diego Comic Con 2014, Funko shocked Marvel vinyl collectors’ wallets when they unexpectedly debuted a half-dozen super-sized 8-10″ Funko Hikari Spider-Man figures at the show. But other than the Blaze Spider-Man Hikari going up for order, we haven’t heard a peep about these since summer. At least, not until today! The exclusive Funko Hikari Dangerous Spider-Man figure is now up for order, but the most “dangerous” thing about it may be the price…
I am hardcore into the Funko Hikari vinyl figures line. I’ve found myself doing inexplicable things like spending five hours in line at the Toy Tokyo Booth at NYCC 2014 trying to secure exclusives of monsters like Garuda and Kappa who I don’t even know who the hell they are, just because they’ve got the Hikari name and style.
So you would expect that I would be all in for the Funko Spider-Man Hikari figures. Even so, I’m not sure that’s going to be the case.
Scale is one concern I have, but space and price are even larger ones for me. With the boxes for each Funko Hikari Spider-Man likely to be around 10″-12″ each, these latest Funko Hikari designer vinyls are really going to eat up shelf real estate. And at $79.99 apiece, they’ll eat up collectors’ incomes as well.
All that said, will I be ordering the just-revealed exclusive Dangerous Spider-Man Hikari figure…? Yes. Yes, I will. Though he’s large and expensive, I love the black and grey camouflage-like deco on this Spider-Man vinyl, and think it’s one of the best-looking ones Funko revealed at SDCC 2014.
The Funko Hikari Spider-Man Dangerous vinyl is now available for order at the Barnes and Noble website, and is ready for immediate shipment. It’s a Barnes and Noble exclusive with a limited edition size of 1,500. Barnes and Noble rarely marks down their exclusive collectibles by much, so I’d be very surprised to see them offer a sale price of more than 10% off on this limited Hikari Spider-Man in the future.
Thoughts on Dangerous Spider-Man and the Funko Hikari Spider-Man line in general, Marvel collectors? Are you planning to be “in” for any (or all) of the Spider-Man Hikaris?
