Up until now, I’ve had a futile hope that the Funko Hikari Spider-Man series of vinyl sofubi figures would be a finite collection, easily completed by purchasing the half-dozen Spider-Man Hikari figures that debuted at SDCC 2014. After all, all four of the Funko Spider-Man Hikaris that have been released/announced for purchase up until now have been ones that premiered at SDCC. Unfortunately for our shelf space and our wallets, the fifth Spidey was announced today, and it’s one we’ve never seen before–the Funko Hikari Distressed Spider-Man is now up for order!
I thought that I was on the verge of completing the Funko Spider-Man Hikari range, but it looks like I was getting ahead of myself–the fifth of the Hikari Spider-Man figures is one we’ve never seen before!
Distressed Spider-Man is the latest design to join the growing Funko Hikari army of Spider-Man sofubi figures, and he’s about as canonical as you can get: a standard-colored Spider-Man figure covered in dirt and battle damage!
We don’t get to see battle-damaged Spider-Man figures like this very often at all (which is odd, considering how frequently Spidey gets his butt whooped in the comics), but we can commemorate Spider-Man getting beaten-up now with this Marvel Funko Hikari figure.
The Distressed Spider-Man Funko Hikari vinyl figure is now available for order, and is scheduled to be released in January 2015 (and yes, that is next month–there’s a lot of these late solicitations going around these days!). With a low edition size of 750 and a much less bizarre color scheme that the Metal Mix Spider-Man (which is pre-sold out everywhere), I definitely see this battle-damaged Spidey selling out well before he ships as well.
How do you like this unusually beaten-up Spider-Man figure, Marvel collectors? Do you prefer this kind of Spider-Man colorway to the more fantastical ones like Metal Mix Spidey-Man, or do you like your crazy-colored Spider-Men best?
