At San Diego Comic-Con 2014, Funko surprised collectors by announcing and showing off a multitude of versions of the first-ever Marvel Funko Hikari Sofubi figure: Spider-Man! Funko didn’t give out a list of the official names for these Spider-Man variants at SDCC 2014, nor did they have release dates or edition sizes for any of them, but now we know who’s up first and it’s a biggie–as in “the largest Funko Hikari figure released to date!” The 10″ Funko Premium Blaze Spider-Man Hikari vinyl figure is now up for order!

I’m a big vinyl figure collector, so I imagine I’ve been paying much closer attention than a lot of people to the Funko Hikaru Sofubi vinyl figures line. The standard Funko Hikari figures stand about 6.5″ tall–just a tad bigger than your usual Marvel Legends action figure. But Funko has something even bigger in mind–premium Hikari Sofubi vinyl toys that will stand over 10″ tall! That’s almost as tall as a sixth scale Hot Toys figure!

To begin the 10″ Hikari Funko vinyls line, Funko has selected one of the most famous characters in the world (who just so happens to also arguably be Marvel’s biggest name): Spider-Man! This specific Funko Hikari Blaze Spider-Man vinyl figure is based off of Spidey’s design from “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” movie, although you could easily fool most casual fans out there into thinking this is a plain old “classic” red-and-blue Spider-Man figure.

Funko has gone with a really fancy color scheme for the Spider-Man Premium Blaze Hikari figure, as it features a semi-translucent gradient plastic with flecks of glitter molded into it. In person, I have a feeling that this figure is going to look absolutely killer.

To coincide with the size increase of 70%, the Premium Blaze Spider-Man Funko Hikari figure will be getting a price hike of 60% as well. Instead of being $49.99 like the usual 6″ Hikari figures are, the 10″ Spider-Man Blaze Hikari will retail for $79.99. That’s not really out-of-line with what designer vinyls of this size sell for, but it is a lot of money to think about for one (admittedly super-cool-looking) vinyl Spider-Man figure.

The Funko Hikari Sofubi Premium Blaze Spider-Man figure is now up for pre-order and is expected to be released in October 2014. With very few exceptions, every Funko Sofubi Hikari vinyl figure has sold out long before its release date, so you might want to decide early whether or not this jumbo-sized Funko Hikari Spider-Man Blaze figure is going to be for you.

I think the Funko Blaze Spider-Man Hikari figure is gorgeous and I’d love to have it in my collection, but I’m just not sure if I have space for another 10″+ figure like this one. What about you, Marvel collectors? Anyone itching to add this Amazing-Spider-Man 2 inspired limited vinyl to your shelf?
