Funko POP Vinyls Walgreens Exclusives: Venom! Punisher! Spider-Man 2099!

Last month, unpainted prototypes surfaced for a pair of previously unannounced Funko POP Vinyls figures that made me think that a Funko Spider-Man POP! Vinyls wave was in our near-future. And as it so happens, I was right–Funko officially announced a quartet of new 2015 Funko Marvel POP! Vinyls today! Of course, there is a little twist. See, this is going to be an exclusive wave of Funko POP Vinyls, and it’s not going to one of the usual retailer suspects like Target or Walmart: it’s the Walgreens Exclusive Funko Spider-Man 2099, Venom, Punisher, and Black Suit Spider-Man POP Vinyls!

Wow! This is a real surprise. Funko is the undisputed king of figure exclusives, but I honestly can’t recall Funko ever giving an entire wave of new figures as exclusives to any one retail chain. Even Hot Topic, which seems to get a half-dozen exclusive Funko figures per month (I’m not exaggerating), tends to only get a few variant figures from miscellaneous properties.

So for Walgreens to give a whole wave full of popular, high-profile Spider-Man characters to Wal-Greens (with three of the figures being of unique characters)–this is a big deal. With this kind of release, a lot of vinyl collectors who would never set foot in a Walgreens otherwise are really going to start taking Walgreens seriously as a toy retailer.

Vinyls lineup, all four characters have a unique number in the Marvel Funko numbering system. The four characters included in this wave–and their corresponding numbers–are as follows:

  • Funko POP Vinyls Black Suit Spider-Man (#81)
  • Funko POP Vinyls Punisher (#80)
  • Funko POP Vinyls Spider-Man 2099 (#81)
  • Funko POP Vinyls Venom (#82)

It’s possible that Walgreens will have a pre-order for the figures on their website, but with all the problems folks had getting their orders months late (or not at all) when they ordered the Marvel Legends Agent Venom and Star Wars Black Series Boba Fett exclusives, I don’t fully trust any pre-order through the Walgreens website anyway.

I’ll be hunting these at retail personally to ensure that I don’t miss out while waiting for unreliable online orders that may never come (especially since I’m OCD about the paint applications on my Funko POPs).

  4. I just checked 3 tonight, and no one has them. They also have no idea what I’m talking about when I ask if they know an ETA, lol

    • Same I tried around 3 or 4 and as of last night the 13th no one knew what I was talking about. The store manager did her best though to help. But no eta. It sucks, I’m tired of seeing baby groot for pre order but it’s out already and it was due in January but these 4, no one has a clue what’s going on with them.

  5. I checked one as well and also called but had no luck. They also didn’t have any clue what I was talking about. Frustrating!

    • They’ve turned up on ebay, and will allegedly arrive in Walgreens store on or around 1/28.

  10. I’ve been checking four local Walgreens daily and nobody seems to anything about them, getting tired of seeing a bunch of dancing Groots everywhere.

    • The “official” street date isn’t until 1/29, so theoretically you should be able to find them next week–it just seems that some Walgreens stores are putting them out early.

  11. Still no sign of them on shelves in Ohio or NY. I work between both states and I have been checking like a crazy person.

    • Every Walgreens store should get some of these figures, though smaller stores may each only receive a handful and not an entire case. It’s up to each store’s manager whether to put the figures out early or not, though.

  16. I have no luck at all. i feel like this is a joke for us east coast people. Nothing for 4 weeks. this is BS.

  17. anyone lucky enough to get a sku or some kind of walgreen bar code to help us avid collectors pin point a store that might carry the figures?

  20. Went yesterday and the lady at walgreens gave me a talk about how things that are announced like that (showed her the article at Marvel site) they have to wait about 4 weeks or more to receive… I am in South Florida.

    Considered the ebay option but they are really over charging for those, which i understand: supply and demand.

  21. Alright I have a friend that works at Walgreen’s, she was suppose to receive one of each exclusive but they did not come in with the last shipment. So I am hoping that they will be in next Wednesdays shipment.

  22. Are we sure all stores will be receiving these? I have the SKU for all 4 and 2 Walgreens both have their shipment in (haven’t opened it yet) but they said with the SKU if was in shipment it would show the store has them. And neither store has them. And this was the last delivery for January.

  23. I am a walgreens Store Manager from PA . Almost 0 of our stores have them and if they do they got in 2. I am trying to manually order them in but I am not confident they will come. Checked all of pa and nj.tritr

  24. This is bs. I’m not into pop vinyls, but have been looking on behalf of my employer who is a great friend that really really wants these. I now HAVE to find these cause I get addicted to the hunt!!! I’ve called many stores and stopped by all week and no one knows anything. Even gone early after trucks have come in and still nothing. I’m thinking either Marvel or WG figured out they could eBay them for way more than retail price. I don’t even know what retail should be but at this point I am ready to just order them!!! No one knows anything at them either which I understand. Going to see how many stores in US there are and then deduce how many could be at each one. Is it 8000 for each one or total all?

  25. Check a couple here in Baltimore, MD. Found Venom and Punisher, they had to look in the back… All other store are like what.. what are you talking about we have them on the shelf, that’s all we have. I’m like NO, they are exclusive to Walgreen’s store. Not sure if playing dumb or extremely smart…

    Guess I’ll keep checking. SMH

  26. After calling all the Walgreens in my area, I called Funko and the person I talked to said late April – early May is when they would be in stores. That doesn’t explain why some people already have them though.

  27. I work for Walgreens and my store just got them in their shipment on Saturday. Usually we only get one of each at a time. As far as I know at my store they’re just sitting in the back waiting to be put out on shelves with other new toys later in the month most likely.

    • Found 2 venoms yesterday in New Orleans… But took the sweetest lady to actually go look up the sku and actually dig them out the back!
