Funko has been the King of SDCC Exclusives for over a decade now—and it looks like they’ll be holding onto that title for another year, with dozens and dozens of exclusives lined up to be released alongside San Diego Comic Con 2023 next week! And though Marvel has lost a few degrees of mainstream popularity over the last couple years, it’s no surprise that Funko has a half-dozen Marvel Pop exclusives available at the event—including MCU MODOK, Gorr’s Daughter and more!

Collectors have been prophesizing the death of Funko POP Vinyls for double-digit years now—but if Funko is losing steam, it’s not visible from their usual expansive offering of SDCC exclusives!

Once again, Funko has prepped a wide range of Marvel POP Exclusives for the show, derived from comic books, movies and even video games. And they’re not afraid to offer some obscure characters, either—including a couple never rendered in toy form before!

The primary thing from the offerings that caught my eye was a two-pack from Thor Love and Thunder containing the duo of Thor and Gorr’s Daughter! It’s unclear when or if we’ll see the titular “Love and Thunder” father and adoptive duo in Hasbro Marvel Legends form or from other companies, but I think this is a cute and fun way to get the most powerful child in the MCU into collectors’ hands in some manner.

Also from the MCU, we’ve got an Ant-Man Quantumania MODOK Pop vinyl. Technically there already was a Pop MODOK released in the movie series, but I think this more silly and comical version captures the character as he was portrayed in the movie superiorly.

Hopping over to the video games world of the GamerVerse, we have a Ghost Rider Pop I assume was planned to capitalize upon the release of Midnight Suns. The Midnight Suns video game performed absolutely disastrously at retail, so I suspect this Ghost Rider (and another figure I’ll talk about momentarily) will be the end of the road as far as merch goes from the game.

From a purely aesthetic viewpoint, I think this is the singular coolest SDCC 2023 Marvel Pop being offered. And hey, it’s nice to see another piece of Robbie Reyes actually get released!

In the comics realm, we get an ultra-obscure pick of Lilith, Mother of Demons. This figure was almost certainly conceived when it wasn’t clear Midnight Suns was going to bomb, although this is a comic book styled toy of the character and not a GamerVerse iteration. The Lilith Pop looks fine, but if this is shared with a retailer it’s going to rot off shelves, in my opinion.

Somewhat less obscure is a Ms. Marvel Pop of Carol Danvers in her deadly, axe-wielding look from the 2011 Fear Itself comics crossover. That story hasn’t exactly fared well popularity-wise in the last dozen years, but there’s no denying that Carol looks sweet in this costume and that Captain Marvel fans may dig this obscure choice.

 

Rounding out the Marvel SDCC 2023 Pop exclusives is Pop Classics Spider-Man, which is limited to 25,000 pieces and rereleases the first Marvel POP Vinyl figure ever made. Spidey comes in a metal tin with commemorative steel coin and enamel pin, as well as a foil certificate card. It’s a nice-looking item, but I’m just not sure most collectors have an appetite for something like this these days.
