Many companies brought half-finished, incomplete packaging for their upcoming products to New York Toy Fair 2014, and some companies brought no packaging at all. But one company that brought the fully-designed, real deal to the show was Funko (along with about a million new figures)! Particularly nice is their Guardians of the Galaxy packaging, which looks quite different from the usual Funko Marvel POP Vinyls packaging. And if you turned around the boxes that were on display, you got a special treat–the first look at an unannounced Unmasked Star Lord POP Vinyls figure!
What I was ever-so-slightly surprised by, though, was the fact that the Unmasked Peter Quill Star Lord POP Vinyls figure will have a unique number: #52 in the Funko Marvel POP! Vinyls lineup. So even if you don’t want two Star-Lord POP! Vinyls, you’re going to have to buy both if you’re a Marvel Funko POP! Vinyls completist.
The Unmasked Star Lord Peter Quill figure wasn’t on display at the event, but the figure is just the masked Star Lord figure that was on display with a new head, so you can get a basic idea of what Unmasked Star Lord will look like (at least from the neck down). I suspect that Chris Pratt will be spending far more time as Starlord with the mask off instead of on during the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie, so this is definitely going to be a choice variant that plenty of fans are going to want.
At this time, it’s unknown what store or event the Unmasked Star Lord Funko figure will be available at (if it turns out to be an exclusive at all). If I was a betting man, I’d say that the Star Lord mask-free variant would be a Hot Topic exclusive, but that’s just my best guess. I’ll post an update here and on the Marvel Toy News Facebook page when official information about the Funko Star-Lord Unmasked POP Vinyl is available.
What do you think, Marvel collectors: Do you like your Funko POP Vinyls Star Lord with mask or without?
