Today we inched ever so closer to knowing every single one of the Marvel San Diego Comic Con 2013 exclusives, as we finally learned the well-kept secret identity of the Gentle Giant Ltd. exclusive for the convention! I hadn’t seen anyone previously guessing or talking about him, so I guess Gentle Giant really did their job keeping their exclusive a mystery. But wonder no more, Marvel collectors–it’s the Gentle Giant SDCC 2013 Exclusive Galactus Mini Bust!
Probably the very coolest feature of Gentle Giant’s SDCC 2013 exclusive Galactus bust is the itty-bitty Silver Surfer figurine that it comes with, who’s posed soaring around his master! The penny-sized Silver Surfer is a really cute touch that adds a bit of fun and style to this mini bust, and it also gives this Galactus bust an advantage over the arm-less Bowen Galactus mini bust Bowen Designs released over a decade ago (although that one is still looking pretty slick a decade later!).
Size wise, Galactus is going to be quite a bit bigger than your usual Marvel mini busts. Unfortunately, we’re never going to get a properly scaled Galactus in mini bust form (for obvious reasons). That said, I still feel like having a Galactus who’s only a couple inches bigger than Spider-Man or Wolverine is kind of silly. I think this Comic Con Galactus bust would look very cool on its own, but also rather out of place in a display with other Marvel mini busts.
Personally, I’m not too bothered about picking up this particular San Diego Comic Con 2013 exclusive. A limited edition of 800 is a pretty substantial size for a regular release, given the dwindling mini bust collectors market out there, so I don’t see this exclusive Galactus Mini Bust going up in value very quickly or very much. Especially not when he comes with an original retail price of $120. That’s certainly a fair price for an 11″ mini bust these days, but not a ton of fans are going to want to pay much more than that for a bust.
Gentle Giant Premium Guild Member Marvel Mini Bust collectors who aren’t attending SDCC 2013 can place pre-orders for the exclusive Galactus Mini Bust now and he’ll ship out next month after the conclusion of Comic-Con (sorry, attendees get first dibs).
