Having been thoroughly buried by the overwhelming amount of Hasbro Marvel Legends news coming out of SDCC 2017, I haven’t quite gotten around to completing my Gentle Giant coverage for event. Luckily, Gentle Giant Ltd. is saving me the trouble of posting SDCC photos by releasing hi-res photos and solicitation info already! Among other new Marvel collectibles, the Gentle Giant Spider-Man Mark IV bust and Animated Daredevil statue are now up for order!
Okay, I just saw (in my mind) a lot of you raise your eyebrows, so let me explain: you know that weird Marvel Legends Spider-Man figure with the glowing chest symbol that came in this year’s Mary Jane two-pack?
Just like that Spidey figure, this mini bust is based off the most recent Spider-Man costume in the comics: the Spider-Armor Mark IV.
For those not reading recently (and I don’t blame you–I haven’t been all that thrilled myself with Amazing Spider-Man lately), Peter Parker became a millionaire through Parker Industries, the company Doc Ock stated while in Peter’s body (I’m not making this up), and now Peter used his newfound money and resources to create the hi-tech Spider-Man Armor Mark IV.
So basically, this Spider-Man costume is actually a new metallic Spider-Armor with glowing eyes and chest emblem. (I know that was a long explanation, but, well… there ya go.)
Considering that Gentle Giant Ltd. is only releasing about one mass retail Marvel mini bust per year these days, I’m a little stunned that they chose something like thus All-New All-Different Spider-Man costume as this year’s entry, but there’s no denying that it’s unique and eye-catching with its metallic and glowing elements.
As has become the standard for Gentle Giant busts, the Spider-Man Mark IV bust is retailing for $120. Thankfully, the bust is discounted 10% off at BBTS right now. I expect to see other online retailers posting at similar prices in the next few days as well.
Quality has been high across the Skottie Young Marvel Animated line, and I doubt the Animated Daredevil statue will be any exception. It’s an instant pre-order for me (and, in fact, I already have ordered it).
Anyone have any strong feelings one way or another toward the Spider-Armor Mark IV mini bust? Is this a design you’re excited to get a mini bust of, or do you wish Gentle Giant picked something else? Meanwhile, Marvel Babies Daredevil: cutest Matt Murdock toy ever or no?
I need the spiderman bust!
