While the Hasbro Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Legends 6″ figures that just hit stores in the last week or have been hogging all of the headlines, those aren’t the only mass-release Amazing Spider-Man 2 action figures Hasbro has lined up for us! Just released in stores, we also have the 4″ Amazing Spider-Man 2 figures, including movie Electro and such uh, “creative” concepts as “Blitz Board Spider-Man”, “Slash Gauntlet Spider-Man” and more!
Electro is the only one of the three main villains from the Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie who’ll be appearing in any form from Hasbro (at least, as far as we know right now). There’s a very nice-looking Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Legends Electro 6″ figure already out at retail, but for the younger folks and Marvel Universe-scale purists, we’ve got this “Power Charged Electro” figure. The proportions and sculpting on this Electro looked pretty weak in person, so I passed on him, but I know a lot of collectors will want this new Electro 3 3/4″ figure regardless.
I would have bet money that Hasbro would stick an electronic light-up feature into Electro, and I was right… and wrong. While the Amazing Spider-Man 2 Electro action figure itself does light-up, it can only do so with the help of a backpack accessory that plugs in and activate the light-up feature. Unfortunately, it appears that the Electro movie figure has only been engineered to have a light-up chest, which is sort of lame-looking.
Next up we’ve got Blitz Board Spider-Man, the closest thing to a movie-accurate Amazing Spider-Man 2 Spider-Man figure that we’re getting in this lineup. The Blitz Board Spider-Man figure itself is under-articulated and a rather unexciting sculpt, but hey–at least he’s red and blue, right? I have no idea whether the “Blitz Board” is supposed to be a hoverboard or a snowboard or what, but if I were going to buy this figure (and I’m not) it’d be going straight into the trash.
And now we can move on and discuss the really stupid toys in this obviously-aimed-at-kids-and-not-us line, such as Slash Gauntlet Spider-Man! This figure is slightly reminiscent of the Cyborg Spider-Man Toybiz figure I loved so much as a kid, so I can’t really hate on it too much. If I was five, I’d probably get a kick out of this. As an adult… not so much.
The fourth and final one of the Amazing Spider-Man 2 Spider-Strike figures from Hasbro is Iron Claw Spider-Man. I’m genuinely not sure I’ve ever seen Spider-Man in a white and red costume before, and honestly I kind of hope I never do again. This is one of the most garish Spider-Man designs I can remember, and “Instant Attack” claw-striking backpack doesn’t make me feel any better about it.
I suspect that this is the pegwarming Spider-Man that will reign supreme in toy stores for the bulk of 2014 (and maybe beyond), so keep a close eye on this one at your stores and see if they start to multiply and infest the places.
But that’s not all! For the true die-hard Spider-Man fan, the Spider-Man Blaze Wing Cycle and Turbo Capture Racer vehicles are also out in stores now! Each ludicrously over-the-top vehicle comes with a traditional red-and-blue Spider-Man action figure, as well as some outrageously crazy attack feature.
I think Spidey is probably better off trying to run over his enemies with the Spider-Man Turbo Capture Racer instead of grabbing them with those itty-bitty claws, but that’s just me.
You can also get your hands on new Spider-Man role-play masks, the Ultimate Spider-Man Mega Blaster Web-Shooter, a new Spider-Man plush buddy, and plenty of other things that most collectors wouldn’t be caught dead with. Although I have to admit that I’m seriously considering grabbing that suction-cup hands Spider-Man plushie to stick on my window…
Now that you’ve seen the majority of Hasbro’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 offerings, are you ready to run out to your local stores and go on a buying bonanza, Marvel fans? Or are none of these latest bits of Spider-Man merch quite up your alley?
I picked up the Electro for the hell of it. It’s pretty cool.
I got the electro and the white and red one. Just because it was so outlandish.
How do you like the red and white “Iron Claw” Spider-Man, Citizen -V-? I’m dying to know. =D
It’s fairly underwhelming. The “Iron Claw” backpack sticks to him magnetically. Someone got paid to come up with that. Then I bought it. The circle of life is magical.
The new Golden Age of toys is over
I think the crest was the Thor figures from the first movie
