Arguably the single most exciting week of the year in the collecting sphere has come and gone: San Diego Comic Con 2019! But now that it’s all over, Hot Toys is kicking off pre-orders of their SDCC 2019 week reveals with a decisive bang! Legitimately potentiallytheir best-seller ever, the Avengers Endgame Battle Damaged Iron Man with Nano Gauntlet and RDJ Head is now up for order! Is this final battle Iron Man a must-have for *your *collection?
It’s taken a little bit for merchandisers to catch up due to Disney’s secrecy and anti-spoiler efforts, but at SDCC 2019 we finally began seeing “Iron Man Snap” products begin to be fully unveiled! Iron Studios showed off their 1:10 BDS statue extensively, but they were upstaged by Hot Toys, who are delivering what may be one of their hottest items ever!
If you ever wanted a super-realistic sixth scale action figure of Robert Downey Jr. from his final minutes as Tony Stark in Endgame…? Yeah—this is the definitive figure that will never be outdone. Period.
Hot Toys has done more RDJ portraits than any actor ever, and at this point they have frankly nailed the likeness. The bloody, dirty, battle weary Robert Downey Jr. likeness here is absolutely spot-on, the way it should be.
And have no fear—the Nano Gauntlet he comes packing isn’t the pristine, clean one that HT is making 1:1 and 1:4 versions of: it’s the accurate, makeshift, down-and-dirty “Gauntlet” that’s actually wielded by the Mark LXXXV at the climax of the battle with Thanos.
The new Tony Stark head and Nano Gauntlet aren’t all, though—along with the extensively battle-damaged armor itself, we’re also getting a pair of “claw”-shaped blasters and an energy blade accessory, which look terrific. There’s also a rocky terrain base, perfect for recreating Tony dying on the ground with his loved ones around. Cool beans.
nd as per usual, Hot Toys has pulled out all the stops for the electronics on the Battle Damaged Mark LXXXV 1/6 figure. Aside from the light-up Nano Gauntlet, the upper body, back, head and ARC Reactor. If you’ve ever owned a die-cast Iron Man MMS figure, you know the kind of masterpieces that HT churns out LED-wise and this is no exception.
Some collectors are going to cry foul that Hot Toys could have included all these extra Battle-Damaged armor pieces and bonus accessories with the “clean” Mark 85 Iron Man, but I think that’s a silly gripe in this instance. There’s just way too much that’s new this time out for this to realistically not be its own release as a figure.
There’s also a “Special Edition” Holo Shield Bonus accessory, which presumably will only be available via Sideshow Collectibles in the United States. This is a huge bonus item, and a pretty cool one at that. I don’t know if I’d necessarily use it with this particular version of the Mark 85, but I’m also planning to get the non-damaged armor, and I think it’ll pair just as well with that. Score one for great free bonuses!
The Hot Toys Battle Damaged Iron Man Mark 85 figure is now up for order, and is scheduled to be released in late 2020. As this is based on what’s going to go down as one of the most legendary climactic scenes in movie history, I don’t think I need to tell anyone that this is gonna be a spectacular seller for Hot Toys—perhaps even their best-selling armor ever.
What do you think, Marvel collectors? Is this (chronologically) final Tony Stark figure everything that it’s cracked up to be? And is anyone as sick as me and planning to pick up both the “clean” and “Battle-Damaged” versions of the Mark LXXXV armor?
Ooh hot. It’s a shame they’ve not announced an Endgame Thor (with braided beard obvs).
I’ve never really got into Hot Toys but they’d make an amazing 3 to display.
They teased one but they didn’t show it off at SDCC. So still possible.
