When the Hot Toys Hulkbuster Iron Man from Avengers Age of Ultron finally shipped after a wait of over two years, collectors who got one were pretty breathless about how spectacular it was. But not every collector that wanted one pre-ordered years earlier, nor could they afford the $1K+ aftermarket prices. But fear not, Hot Toys hasn’t forsaken you: the 20” Hot Toys Infinity War Hulkbuster Iron Man figure is now up for order! He’s less articulated than his predecessor—but also half the price!
As it turns out, those collectors were right. But instead of creating another Hulkbuster as fancy as the AOU version, Hot Toys has made something totally different this time: a limited articulation Power Pose Series Hulkbuster 20” figure with a price-tag that’s almost halved from the first version!
Ordinarily I would decry a loss of articulation in a sixth scale figure, but the truth is that the original Iron Man Hulkbuster 1/6 figure was so large and bulky that much of the articulation ended up being useless despite being integrated. I genuinely don’t know that I would shell out another $800+ for another quasi-statue like that one.
But—! A mere $430 for a 20” Hulkbuster 2.0 figure with some usable articulation…? Sold! The six points of articulation are at the head, arms, wrists and waist. It’s not a ton of poseability, but I feel the most crucial points for this armor are present.
I know many collectors are going to turn their nose up at the fact that this is a PPS (Power Pose Series) figure, but I think this is the smart move by Hot Toys. I imagine they’ll sell vastly more Hulkbusters in this format, and I’m pretty happy with how this piece will look on my shelf for the price.
And while there aren’t a load of accessories included, there are two pairs of interchangeable hands included (relaxed and fists), with the relaxed hands having light-up repulsor lights on them.
The Hot Toys Hulkbuster Iron Man Infinity War figure is now up for order, and is scheduled to be released in Q3 2019. With this being a reasonably simpler design compared to the first iteration, I’m hoping that Hot Toys will actually get this figure released early (or at least on time) instead of being delayed two years like the original was.
I’ve had my say about this Hulkbuster Iron Man 2.0 figure, but what about you, Marvel collectors? Are you on board with less articulation and a much lower price, or would you have preferred the works at $800 or up? And having seen Infinity War now, is this even an armor that you’d want a statue of at all?.
Hmm 🤔 I’m thinking about it sold it’s looks great The other one is better “but I’ll have to add this one to the collection nice 👍🏿 price and nice job hot toys..👶🏿
While cost may be a factor but given that Hot Toys spent 3 years to develop the Hulkbuster 1.0 it should make use of the experience and know-how to develop Hulkbuster 2.0 with better articulations and improvements in a much shorter time and lower cost.
