Considering that they already premiered the Hot Toys Iron Man Mark 45 sixth scale figure today–a figure that will certainly retail for well over $300–you might think that Hot Toys would be satisfied with the tens of thousands of dollars they’re about to secure. But uhnt-uh! They want more! And what better way to cash in on the Avengers Age of Ultron Hot Toys craze than with army-builder figures from the movie? The MMS 299 Hot Toys Iron Legion sixth scale figure is now up for order!
While the Iron Legion Drones aren’t monumentally important in the Avengers: Age of Ultron movie, I still love the blue-and-white armor, and am happy to own a couple Hasbro 4″ Iron Legion figures, LEGO Iron Legion minifigures, and even a Titan Hero Iron Legion! And now, my dreams are coming true: Hot Toys is bringing out the first high-end Iron Legion sixth scale figure!
As it absolutely should be for the prices Hot Toys charges, this is the finest representation of the Iron Legion armor that we’ve seen from any toy company (and the finest we’re ever likely to see, period). Just like the full-fledged Iron Man armors that Tony Stark wears, the Iron Legion is super-articulated with 25 points of articulation, has white light LED functions in its eyes and palms, and stands a full 31 cm (12.2″) tall.
In what has to be considered a disappointment, though, the specific Iron Legion Drone that Hot Toys has chosen to produce is #03. That’s a really odd choice, because this is the specific drone whose body ends up being used for Ultron Mark I (who, incidentally, has his own Hot Toys figure).
I’m not sure why Hot Toys would select for production the only Iron Legion Drone that can’t be displayed alongside their Ultron Mark I figure, but here’s hoping that there are customizable elements included to allow those who want to army-build the chance to create different numbered Iron Legions.
Unlike the fully-loaded Iron Mark Mark 45 Hot Toys figure I discussed earlier today, the Iron Legion Drone is a much more bare-bones release. He has a couple pairs of interchangeable hands, his wrist launchers, a figure stand, and… that’s it. And if it keeps the price down on this figure? I’m all for it. And speaking of the price…
At this time, the U.S. pricing details for the 1/6 Iron Legion Hot Toys figure are unknown. As an army-building character, I know a lot of collectors would like to see a low price on this figure (as in–$199 or less), but for an Iron Man armor with light-up LED functions… I just can’t see Sideshow pricing this at under $240. Let’s hope that I’m wrong, as I really want to amass at least two of these very cool Stark Tech suits.
UPDATE: To my utter amazement, Sideshow has priced the Iron Legion figures at $194.99 each! That’s a steal for an Iron Man armor in 2015! Thanks, Sideshow!!
I think it will be very interesting to see how the Hot Toys Iron Legion figures sell, as Iron Man figures tend to be hot, but this an armor that a) Tony Stark never wore and b) Ended up being “evil” after being possessed by Ultron.
The MMS299 Hot Toys Iron Legion figure is now available for order, with an expected release date in early 2016. With this release, we’ll just be waiting for the new Hot Toys Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Thor figures to go up for order. Any time now, Hot Toys!
I have my heart set on owning at least one Iron Legion Hot Toys figure, and more if other number designations are available. What about you, Marvel collectors? Are you contemplating picking up one (or more) of these Iron Legion drones, or are you satisfied without having generic armors in your Avengers Movie Masterpiece Series?
You forgot to mention Ultron Sentry too. Hopefully with switchable LED colour.
Any time now, Hot Toys!
