In an event that’s even more rare than a solar eclipse, Hot Toys has managed to shock the collecting world by releasing the Iron Man 3 Hot Toys Tony Stark figure in both Asia and the United States in the same week! While the Hot Toys Midas Mark 21 Iron Man figure led off the Iron Man 3 Hot Toys figures line in Asia, this new Hot Toys Tony Stark Iron Man 3 figure is leading off the line in the United States–and he’s shipping this week!
However, now that the figure is actually shipping it has a different (and more complicated) name: the “Hot Toys Tony Stark Mark XLII Autonomous Prehensile Propulsion Suit Test Version” sixth scale figure (try saying that three times fast, right?).
The box for this new Iron Man 3 Hot Toys Tony Stark Mark 42 Prototype Test Version is pretty boring and unassuming, but the real good stuff is (of course) what’s inside the box…
For a figure that costs over $250, you’d expect this Tony Stark Hot Toys figure to come with quite a few accessories–but man, does he ever come with a crazy amount of cool extras! The Tony Stark Iron Man 3 MMS 1/6 figure comes with a wide assortment of pieces of Iron Man armor, numerous alternate hands, a workshop table, tools, a headset, a light-up LED chest ARC Reactor, an LED stage base and even an articulated mechanical robot with rolling wheels!
It’s true that Hot Toys makes some of the most expensive high-end toys around, but no one can say that you don’t get your money’s worth out of this Mark XLII Autonomous Prehensile Propulsion Suit Test Version Tony Stark.
Throughout the development of this Tony Stark Hot Toys MMS figure, I’ve heard plenty of complaints by collectors that Hot Toys had missed the mark with the Robert Downey Jr. head sculpt on this figure. Well, now that we’ve seen the finished production product, I feel pretty strongly that those people were totally wrong. I think this is a great likeness of Robert Downey Junior–I legitimately don’t know how much more authentic Hot Toys (or anybody else) can make Robert Downey Jr. look.
While it’s not the most flashy part of the figure, one unsung hero of this Hot Toys MMS 191 Tony Stark figure is the detailed black and grey shirt the figure comes wearing. I love the texture of the shirt and its designs–the precision of this shirt to the on-screen material goes a long way to making this figure feel like an accurate representation of Tony Stark as he’s seen at the start of the Iron Man 3 movie.
You can still order the Hot Toys Tony Stark figure through Sideshow Collectibles, who will be shipping him out this week. BigBadToyStore also still has pre-orders available for Tony Stark, but I opted for the $14 in Sideshow Rewards dollars instead for this figure. This will be my first Hot Toys Robert Downey Jr. Tony Stark Movie Masterpiece Series figure, so I’m looking forward to posting unboxing photos, impressions and a full review when I receive mine (hopefully by the end of next week).
