I woke up this morning to the most beautiful orange sight that I’ve ever seen in my life. No, it’s not something as disgustingly romantic as the sunrise (and I haven’t been awake early enough for the sunrise in about a decade). The sight I’m talking about is even more breathtaking–at least, from a hopelessly addicted Marvel collector’s point of view. For I awoke today and immediately set my gaze upon the official announcement of the most orange Iron Man armor ever–the MMS 258 Hot Toys Peacemaker Iron Man Summer 2014 exclusive figure is now up for order!
Let me begin by saying that I really, really love orange. No, really. My wallet is orange, my keys are on an orange lanyard, my sandals are orange, my Disney Magic Band is orange , my iPhone bumper is orange, and my wife got her Master’s degree from Syracuse University–home of (you guessed it) The Orange. So yeah–I like orange.
The relevance of this is that Hot Toys has correctly identified and is preparing to capitalize on one of my greatest weaknesses: orange. The final Hot Toys 2014 Summer Exclusive will be the very orange and very awesome Hot Toys Iron Man Peacemaker Mark XXXVI figure!
Hot Toys was really sneaky and clever when they stuck the prototype for the Hot Toys Peacemaker Iron Man Riot Control Suit into their Hall of Armor display at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 as a teaser for the figure. While there was no official announcement that an Iron Man 3 Peacemaker Iron Man Hot Toys figure was actually in the works, that teaser was enough to get diehard Hot Toys Iron Man collectors salivating (and get everyone else rolling their eyes).
I personally loved the Iron Man Red Snapper Hot Toys figure, but I know many folks didn’t care for the claw arms and the perceived proportion problems they created for the figure. If the claws were what was holding you back from enjoying that particular Iron Man armor, the more realistic arms on the Iron Man Peacemaker armor may make this figure more to your liking.
Hot Toys is cheaping out on us a little bit with this figure, as its only included accessories are going to be the usual Hot Toys display stand base and a sheet of stickers. No, really. Apparently we can use the “decorative caution labels” to customize the Peacemaker Iron Man Hot Toys figure however we want, but I have a hunch that all these decals are really going to accomplish is making the figure look cheap and making my OCD go off the charts trying to get them aligned perfectly symmetrically.
Unlike the Hot Toys Iron Man Red Snapper figure, the Hot Toys Peacemaker Iron Man is not being considered a “Power Pose Series” figure. Instead, Peacemaker Iron Man has been designated as MMS258 (Movie Masterpiece Series Figure #258).
This is either because the regular arms eek Peacemaker into the realm of what Hot Toys considers a regular Movie Masterpiece Series figure, or because the Power Pose Series simply does not sell well. I’m guessing it’s more the latter. Either way, I’ll be glad to add the Iron Man Mark XXXVI Peacemaker to my Hot Toys Iron Legion.
Midas Iron Man went up for sale on Cyber Monday 2013 and sold out in a few days, so Peacemaker Iron Man could definitely follow in Midas’ footsteps (although I’d prefer if he went up for order long before the end of November).
The Sideshow Exclusive Hot Toys Peacemaker Iron Man figure is now available for order, and is expected to ship in October 2014. Like all Hot Toys exclusive Iron Man figures, I’d anticipate the MMS258 Hot Toys Mark 36 Peacemaker will sell out in well under a week.
Now that we are well and truly into the realm of weird and obscure Iron Man 3 armors, what do you think of the Iron Man 3 Hot Toys Peacemaker Iron Man, Marvel collectors? Does the bright color and novelty factory of this figure win you over, or will your ~$300 be spent elsewhere later this year?
WTF… come on Hot Toys.
This repaint armor still sucks…
Looking forward to Age Of Ultron!!!
I love his industrial looking legs. Looks more believable than the other iron man characters. Like there’s actually room for the mechanisms inside to fit and work. Most of the other suits are heaps more streamlined and pretty
