Competition is fast and furious in the world of Marvel statues, but there’s one company who stood above all the rest when it came to resin statues for Infinity War: Iron Studios, who produced well over a dozen pieces for the movie in their value-priced 1:10 scale Battle Diorama Series! And it looks like they’re at it again for Avengers Endgame, as their first 3 statues for the movie are now up for order: Armored Thanos (in two flavors!) and the first-ever Nebula and Ronin statues!
Those who haven’t checked out their 1:10 BDS (Battle Diorama Series) lines should definitely give them a look, because pieces like last year’s Infinity War Falcon are every bit as detailed and impressive as anything I’ve gotten in 1:4 scale in years. And if you’re interested in coming on-board with Iron Studios for Avengers Endgame, there’s already three solicited for release—plus a deluxe variant that adds some extra hoopla!
First up, we’ll talk about the two Avengers Endgame Iron Studios that are already ready for release (no, seriously—these have skipped pre-order and are ready for release now in limited numbers—crazy!!): Ronin and Nebula.
It seems that everybody is getting on the Ronin train, with Hawkeye as Ronin collectibles coming from Hasbro, Hot Toys, Diamond Select Toys, Bandai and now Iron Studios.
The jury is still out for me on this character, as we don’t know how much Clint Barton will appear in this identity or if he’ll have any memorable battles in this role. I’m not ready to drop $200+ on a Hot Toys 1/6 of this character just yet… but I could probably be persuaded to grab this $89 resin statue from IS.
Basically, we’ve got Ronin here jumping into battle with his sword ready to strike. It’s a dynamic pose with a lot of energy to it, and the detailing looks to be up to the usual Iron Studios standard of excellence. If we got an unmasked Jeremy Renner head with this piece I would have already pre-ordered, but as it is, I’m still mulling it over. This does look nice, though.
What was an instant pre-order for me, though, was a character I genuinely never thought we’d see a resin statue of: Nebula!
Nebula’s driving motivation in the MCU has been to kill Thanos ever since she debuted, so it’s not a stunner that she looks set to be featured prominently in Endgame. I’m legit more surprised we’re getting high-end merch of her, honestly!
This 9” Nebula Statue is posed shooting to kill atop a piece of Avengers headquarter debris, and looks totally snazzy. The pose is strong, the Karen Gillan likeness is there, the sculpted textures are solid, and the price is right at 89 bucks… I’ve got zero complaints about this. Winner!
Finally, we’ve got the Big Daddy of the Endgame series: Armored Thanos. The spectacular Infinity War Thanos BDS Statue is actually perhaps the single best piece of merch released for the character to-date, so in my eyes it was going to be tough for Iron Studios to top that gem.
And for me… this new Endgame Thanos BDS Statue just doesn’t quite reach that same level of greatness. Don’t get me wrong—this look great—but the bar set by the Infinity War version was just insurmountable in my eyes.
While the sculpt on this piece is killer once again—particularly the awesome head sculpt—I have a hard time with the pose here. Thanos looks like he’s charging forward out of an explosion and throwing a javelin to me, and I just can’t get past it. It feels awkward, despite all the intricate details and hard work that obviously went into this.
For those who do dig this piece, though, there’s a fancier version available that you might want to splurge for. The Deluxe Thanos Endgame BDS figure will come with LED lights for the Infinity Gauntlet, a helmetless portrait, and a Gauntlet-free left hand for the Mad Titan.
Fifty bucks feels like a bit too much of an upcharge for the extras that you get with the Deluxe version—especially considering most collectors will likely want to display with the Infinity Gauntlet and helmeted head—but there’s no denying the allure of the LED Infinity Stones.
The regular and deluxe versions of the Iron Studios Avengers Endgame Thanos figure are now up for order online at various retailers, with an anticipated release date of Q4 2019. Ronin and Nebula are currently only available via the Iron Studios website in limited quantities, and it’s unclear when they’ll be solicited through other retailers. If you want them early (or maybe at all), you’ll have to order direct.
How many collectors out there have given Iron Studios’ Battle Diorama Series a shot thus far? Those of you who have, what do you think of it? And what other Endgame characters are you hoping to see released to continue the series from this movie?
