It’s no secret that I’ve been getting seduced by the sweet siren song of Iron Studios over the past few months, as their resin 1/10 Battle Diorama Series Marvel statues are becoming more and more impressive. The largest series to-date by far is coming in the form of the Avengers Infinity War BDS, and following up on last month’s successful Thanos and Cull Obsidian launches, the first three Avengers are joining the fray: the Iron Studios Black Widow, Hulkbuster and Hulk statues are now up for order!

Because of the nature of the two main battles in the movie and the sheer mass of characters that they’ll be covering, Iron Studios has broken their Avengers Infinity War movie Battle Diorama Series into two separate sub-sets: Battle of Wakanda and Battle of Titan. Each set began with the one villain announced for the battle: Cull Obsidian for Wakanda and Thanos for Titan.

Both of those statues look downright amazing, but it wouldn’t be much of a battle diorama without heroes, right…? And so, Iron Studios has now solicited the first three Avengers from the Battle of Wakanda: Black Widow, Hulkbuster Iron Man and… uh, Hulk.

We’ll start by looking at Black Widow, as she doesn’t pose the obvious problems that the Hulk statue does.

One of the few big let-downs for me in Infinity War was the relative insignificance of the parts Captain America and Black Widow had in the movie. Even so, Black Widow’s new costume with vest and blonde hair really grew on me in the film, and I’m pretty delighted to own a polystone statue of her for under a hundred bucks.

You’re not going to get a spitting image likeness of Scarlett Johansson from a 1/10th scale resin statue—but actually, the portrait on this Iron Studios Black Widow Statue looks surprisingly great! I’m really pleased about the quality of the sculpt on this piece.

Perched atop a terrain base with her baton staff extended and ready for action, this might be my favorite piece of Black Widow movie merch released to date.

Now, as far as Hulk goes, well… he’s an “interesting” choice. Marvel Studios did a really good job with their campaign of misdirection, to the point where we’re getting toys from companies like Funko, Hasbro and now Iron Studios from scenes that don’t appear in the movie at all. And so, even though Hulk never appears at all during the Wakanda Battle, we can see the Jade Giant in all his statue glory here.

The Hulk Iron Studios Statue is 10” tall and looks worlds better than the Kotobukiya Hulk ARTFX+ movie statue released a few years back (albeit at a much higher price).

This Hulk Statue looks awesome to me, but ultimately I may be passing on this one. Hulk doesn’t appear in this battle, and Banner is inside of the Hulkbuster Iron Man armor—it just does not make any logical sense to me to have this piece as part of the diorama (although many may love it as a standalone).

Last, but absolutely not least (especially in price!), we’ve got the Iron Studios Hulkbuster Iron Man 1/10 Statue. This piece is another controversial one because of both its price and its pose.

Standing 20” tall, this is one of the larger 1:10 scale resin statues that I’ve ever seen. Given the size and bulk on this piece, I think the $289 MSRP is actually quite fair—there’s probably close to as much mass here as we see on some 1/4 Premium Format Figures!

The dynamic, leaping pose for the Hulkbuster 2.0 Statue is a lot more action-oriented than anything we’ve seen for a Hulkbuster armor before, and I think the pose is really throwing some people off. This piece is really meant to be paired with the Cull Obsidian Statue, and as such the leaping pose admittedly looks a teensy bit awkward by its lonesome.

While some folks are skeptical about this piece right now, I think that once collectors (like me!) get this in-hand and displayed alongside the rest of the Avengers Infinity War BDS statues, it’s gonna win a LOT of people over. The fancy paint on this figure looks as good as on the $800 Hot Toys Hulkbuster!

The Avengers Infinity War Iron Studios Hulk and Black Widow statues are now up for order, with an anticipated release in November 2018-January 2019, with Hulkbuster following about two months later. That’s a quick turnaround time, but Iron Studios has kept to schedule pretty well with their BDS figures, so I expect these will be out on-time as planned. BBTS and Sideshow are both offering pre-orders for Hulk and Black Widow, but as Sideshow has each for $10-$30 less, I opted for Sideshow this time out.
