Ordinarily, I absolutely can’t stand ruthless, pure evil villains that have no mercy and no soul. Those types of villainous characters typically evoke no sympathy at all and are flat-out boring to read about. Usually. But there’s an exception to every rule–and in this case, his name is Carnage! The 90’s are back in style, and Carnage is finally getting more long-deserved merch in 2015. And the most high-end and impressive Carnage collectible coming out is definitely the Kotobukiya Carnage Fine Arts Statue is now up for order!
So Carnage must either have a fascinating, complex personality and back story, or, well… he just appeals to people’s cool factor. Spoilers: it’s the latter.
While Carnage hasn’t gotten a ton of love from high-end collectibles companies in the past few years–the Sideshow Carnage Comiquette statue was the most recent high-end Carnage released, back in 2010–Carnage will have another day in the sun to slaughter in 2015 thanks to Kotobukiya and master sculptor Erick Sosa!
Sosa has done a fantastic job capturing Carnage’s monster-like visage. With razor-sharp claws and spear-like tendrils protruding from all over his symbiotic body, this Carnage statue looks like one scary dude–just the way he should!
And because the Maximum Carnage statue is in the sixth scale, it’ll fit in almost seamlessly next to most Bowen Designs statues (which tend to be ever-so-slightly smaller than sixth scale). Man, I miss Bowen Designs.
Since no killing spree would be much fun without changing things up a bit from murder to murder, Carnage includes an alternate scythe arm right arm. I don’t think that I would use the Carnage scythe arm as my default for displaying the Kotobukiya Carnage 1/6 statue, but it’s always nice to have the option.
Carnage is the second symbiote statue by Erick Sosa that Kotobukiya has produced, as the Kotobukiya Venom Fine Arts Statue was released last year (and is now almost a complete sell-through at retail price–now is the time to grab a Kotobukiya Venom statue if you want one).
Carnage has traditionally been a hair less popular than Venom, but Carnage’s popularity (and the number of comics focusing on him) has definitely been growing stronger over the past few years. I have a hunch that just as many people will want the Maximum Carnage Kotobukiya Fine Arts statue as did their Venom–if not more!
Of course, not everyone will want their Kotobukiya Maximum Carnage statue to be facing off against his symbiotic “father”, Venom. Carnage has this other famous adversary that Kotobukiya has also previously released a Fine Arts Statue of: Spider-Man!
The Kotobukiya Spider-Man statue looks incredible posed against the upcoming Carnage statue, but with it selling regularly for $400-$600 on the aftermarket, it’s well outside the range of what I want to pay for (almost) any sixth scale statue.
The Kotobukiya Maximum Carnage Fine Arts Statue is now up for order with a $20 pre-order discount, and is expected to be released in July 2015. Considering the massive popularity of the previously-released Kotobukiya Venom Unbound and Spider-Man statues, there’s no question that this is going to be a popular piece and a hot seller.
How do you like the first high-end Carnage statue in quite a while, Marvel collectors? Will this psycho symbiote be finding new potential victims in your home next year, or is the Kotobukiya Carnage statue staying off your shopping list?
