It’s time to call Hela, because Hel just froze over! For the second time in under a month, I’m excited about a Kotobukiya Marvel Bishoujo statue. Ordinarily I find the statues in this particular line to end up more than a little slutty-looking, but Koto really impressed me with their SDCC 2014 Psylocke Bishoujo exclusive. And now, just a few weeks after unveiling that beauty, Kotobukiya has blown away my expectations with another upcoming release: the Kotobukiya Jubilee Bishoujo statue is now up for order!
Fans of the 1990’s X-Men can be divided up into two basic groups: those who love Jubilee, and those who hate Jubilee. Me? I love Jubilee. In fact, she’s my absolutely favorite member of the X-Men (not counting offshoot teams like the New Mutants, of course). And like the long-hated Ewoks of Star Wars fame, Jubilee has finally risen back to popularity in recent years as kids who loved the FOX X-Men cartoon and the Jim Lee X-Men have grown up.
Sometimes the Japanese-inspired Bishoujo statue feels awkward to me, but if there’s one character who really pulls it off, it’s Jubilation Lee! Being a 90’s cartoon/comic book character of Asian descent, Jubilee just seems right in Bishoujo form.
And while Jubilee’s costume isn’t quite the same as it was in the X-Men cartoon and on the X-Men Blue Team, more modern interpretations of her trademark yellow jacket and pink glasses are still present and accounted for.
I also really wanted some effects pieces to represent Jubilee’s fireworks mutant power, but alas, those don’t look to be included. Perhaps on an Generation X-colored Jubilee exclusive version someday?
The Kotobukiya Bishoujo Jubilee statue is now available for pre-order, and is expected to be released in January 2015. It’s going to be tough waiting until next year for this piece, but after waiting over two decades for a great Jubilee toy, I can stand to wait a little longer!
Will you be buying the first-ever high-end Jubilee statue, Marvel collectors? Or does the X-Men’s resident mallrat-turned-vampire just not hold the same appeal for you as some of her more marketed teammates?
