All good things must come to an end in the collectibles world, and it looks like–at least for now–the beloved Kotobukiya X-Men Danger Room Sessions statues have come to an end. Sadly, it looks like there’s no Beast, Iceman or Jubilee on the horizon anytime soon. But before the end, the long-awaited Kotobukiya Rogue statue is finally shipping out this month! After years in development, did Koto do justice to the beauty of the X-Men’s southern belle?
But despite the popularity of the line, there’s been no new announcements or teases of any kind regarding future additions to the Danger Room Sessions, and it seems like the writing is on the wall that the line is going on hiatus for a while (though hopefully not forever).
But if this is the end, Koto is closing out on a strong note with a central character from the Jim Lee 90’s X-Men: Rogue!
I haven’t gotten shipping confirmation yet on my own Rogue Kotobukiya statue, but Ocram received his already and was nice enough to give me permission to run his unboxing photos of Rogue. Thanks, Ocram!
Since Ocram actually has this lovely piece in hand (and I don’t yet), let me begin with his impressions of her:
“Personally I would prefer her belt to be a bit more loose, because that’s one of her unique costume designs. And I noticed there is only one ‘X’ symbol on her jacket which is on the right side. I think her jacket should have both ‘X’ symbols, right? But these are my personal preferences.
Overall Kotobukiya really did an awesome job on her. The paint app is really really good.
And lastly I love the box… It’s small and can easily be stored.”
Sometimes Kotobukiya’s quality control can be a bit of a crapshoot, but that thankfully does not appear to be the case here. I don’t see any obvious paint mishaps in any of the photos of Rogue (unlike poor Cyclops, who was riddled with them).
All of the paint applications on the 1/6 Rogue statue look neat and clean, which will likely make those OCD types (like me) breathe a huge sigh of relief.
I think that Rogue could probably benefit a little bit of paint shading to add additional depth to the statue, but I’m content enough with her bright, unfettered colors as-is.
As shown at conventions and in the solicitation images, Rogue comes with two heads–an iconic long-haired Jim Lee Rogue head and a short-haired, more modern portrait.
Both the heads looks really well-done (and I don’t see the vacant zombie stare that is frequently complained about with statues), but I’ll only be displaying the classic long-haired Rogue portrait on this statue.
Regardless, Rogue is a character that I’ve never been especially happy with the Bowen representations of, so I’m definitely looking forward to adding her to my 1/6 X-Men statues roster this month!
The Kotobukiya Danger Room Sessions Rogue statue is still available for pre-order, and is expected to ship out this month in the United States. BBTS has her priced at $219.99 ($20 off), whereas EE has her for MSRP with free shipping. It’s tough to say which will ultimately turn out cheaper, and I suspect that the overall price is going to be around the same from both retailers.
Having now seen photos of the finished production model of the Koto Rogue, what do you think of her, Marvel collectors? Is this the definitive Rogue statue you’ve been waiting for, or are you passing on what may be the final Danger Room Sessions entry?
Her boobs are a bit on small side… Not being voyeuristic, I’m just pointing out an inaccuracy!
