Traditionally, LEGO has only released a singular set for the “riskier” Marvel Cinematic Universe movies like Doctor Strange and Ant-Man. But The LEGO Group must be feeling pretty good about the Black Panther movie, because they’ve got not one, but two LEGO Black Panther Movie sets on the way and now up for order! I don’t know about anyone else, but if there doesn’t end up being a Robo-Rhinoceras in the movie now, I am gonna be severely disappointed…
But with less than a month until their release date, both 2018 LEGO Marvel Black Panther movie sets have now been revealed! Will fans be happy with the minifigures and buildable elements? Let’s take a look…
First up, we’ve got the cheaper (and in my opinion, way cooler) of the pair: the LEGO Superheroes Rhino Face-Off by the Mine 76099 set! Retail on this set is $20 for 229 pieces, giving us a rock-solid value of under 9 cents per piece.
This is the set that I’d expect to sell better by leaps and bounds, as it retails for $19.99 (close to impulse buy territory) and comes with three minifigures, including the film’s protagonist and antagonist: Black Panther and Killmonger.
The coolest part of this set isn’t the minifigures in my eyes, though—it’s the semi-buildable Robo-Rhinoceros that the Okoye minifigure can ride! This is giving me a serious “Dinoriders” vibe, and I really dig it.
The little buildable mine cart and rail tracks diorama is okay as well, though destined to be the lowest-priority selling-point if this set to most folks.
The other Black Panther LEGO Marvel set coming our way is the LEGO Marvel Royal Talon Fighter Attack 76100 set. This set contains 358 pieces for $29.99, so it’s really a pretty sweet deal at just over 8 cents per piece.
The LEGO Royal Talon Fighter Jet is over 8” long and is supposedly “ancient mask shaped” according to the description. If I squint, I can see the mask shape (sort of).
The LEGO Marvel Black Panther sets are now up for order, and are scheduled to be released on January 1st 2018. And for those wondering about a LEGO Shuri minifigure, have no fear—she’ll be coming in an Infinity War set in spring 2018.
Any thoughts on the LEGO Marvel Black Panther sets? Are you sold on the Rhino Face-Off in the Mine set and/or the Royal Talon Fighter attack, or are these movie-based sets a “no buy” for you?
So what the hell. Did they seriously just not realize that they ripped off the name of a Master’s of the Universe vehicle? Talon fighter.
