Say what you will about them, but Marvel Studios knows how to get people excited about their upcoming movies. And the way they got folks stoked beyond belief about the Avengers Age of Ultron movie was with a concept drawing of Hulkbuster Iron Man. That’s why it’s no surprise that among the half-dozen LEGO Avengers Age of Ultron sets revealed this week, we find the LEGO Hulkbuster Rescue Mission 76032!
I was a little startled at my first look at LEGO 76032, as the LEGO Hulkbuster Iron Man figure is monstrously huge compared to the scale I was expected it to be based off what we’ve seen in concept art and the trailer for the Avengers 2 movie. Don’t get me wrong–I think the LEGO Hulkbuster Iron Man figure looks fun and all and I’ll absolutely buy it–but it’s definitely larger than it should be.
Of course, the Hulkbuster LEGO figure isn’t the only selling-point for this set: it’s also the only place to a LEGO Scarlet Witch minifigure! The set includes five total LEGO minifigures: Ultron Prime, Hulk, Iron Man Mark 43 and Scarlet Witch.
That’s a pretty killer lineup of minifigures, and being the only place to get Scarlet Witch and Ultron Prime LEGO minifigures will likely be more than enough to get this set to be a best-seller. LEGO is also the first toy manufacturer to announce a movie Scarlet Witch figure (although hopefully Hot Toys, Hasbro and Diamond Select Toys will follow suit soon enough).
It’s not all good news, though. The Hulkbuster Rescue Mission LEGO set will contain 248 pieces for 34,99 Euros (about $43 US). That’s an outright terrible value compared to my LEGO “sweet spot” of 10 cents per piece!
I sincerely hope this set will only retail for $25-$30 in the United States, but even if it does, it’ll still be overpriced as far as average price per piece goes. If this set didn’t include four LEGO minifigures plus the hotly-anticipated Hulkbuster armor, I imagine it would be doomed at retail. Good thing it does feature all those elements!
I’ll update with the U.S. pricing details on this set as soon as they’re available, and you can ‘Like’ Marvel Toy News on Facebook to have news and photos beamed right to your Facebook Newsfeed.
What do you think of the LEGO 76032 Hulkbuster Rescue Mission set, Marvel fans? Are you pleased with LEGO’s take on Hulkbuster Iron Man, or does their interpretation miss the mark in your opinion?
