Though full details and photos have leaked out of virtually every other LEGO 2014 winter set, LEGO has been extra-stingy with information and images of their 2014 LEGO Marvel offerings. I’ve got some confidential-stamped images (that I can’t post, for obvious reasons), but otherwise LEGO has managed to keep their LEGO Marvel 2014 intel very close to their vest. Luckily, a few minifigures have snuck out, and those I actually can share: the LEGO Marvel Mary Jane & Power Man minifigures!
The LEGO Luke Cage Power Man figure has an innate coolness to it based off the simple fact of its existence. Five years ago I would have said with certainty that the chances of LEGO ever making a Luke Cage minifigure were zero, and now he’s about to join the LEGO Iron Fist released in 2012! It is truly a miraculous period of history that we live in.
LEGO Mary Jane Watson has actually been released with several LEGO Spider-Man sets in the past, but none of them are part of the modern LEGO Marvel Superheroes imprint. In fact, all four previously-released LEGO Mary Jane minifigures were based on her movie appearances in the original Spider-Man movie trilogy (and no, none of the minifigures looked anything like Kirsten Dunst or Mary Jane).
Even so, the last LEGO Mary Jane minifigure was released way back in 2004, so it’s been a decade since LEGO Spider-Man has had a date! Doubtless, both LEGO Peter Parker and LEGO Marvel collectors will be relieved when the Mary Jane LEGO minifigure hits town next year.
The LEGO Power Man minifigure and LEGO Mary Jane minifigure will be released in the Ultimate Spider-Man LEGO Spider-Man: Spider Copter Rescue 76016 set that’s scheduled to be released in winter 2014. Most of the LEGO 2014 sets will be arriving on store shelves in January 2014, but I have a hunch that tells me the LEGO Marvel 2014 sets will be released a month or so later than the rest of the winter 2014 LEGO wave. I’ll post official photos of this set (and the other new LEGO Marvel sets) as soon as they’re available.
How do you like next year’s LEGO Luke Cage and Mary Jane minifigures, Marvel fans? Are the LEGO Marvel figures something you’re collecting, or is this style of figure a pass for you?
