This past week has been a huge–and expensive–week for Marvel collectors, as the official street date for boatloads of Avengers Age of Ultron toys finally arrived! But while tons of Hasbro Avengers Age of Ultron figures and collectibles have begun to stockpile on the shelves, one brand that hasn’t made its Avengers movie presence known at retail yet is LEGO. But fear not! Though the official release date for the LEGO Avengers Age of Ultron sets isn’t until March 2015, the LEGO Iron Man vs. Ultron 76029 set slipped out early and is now up for order!
I was a bit off this time, though–Amazon received their first shipment of both the 76029 Iron Man vs. Ultron set and the Attack on Avengers Tower set a full three weeks earlier than expected!
Of the six sets that LEGO has planned for Avengers Age of Ultron, the Iron Man vs. Ultron set was at the bottom of my list. Don’t get me wrong–I dig that we get four exclusive minifigures in this set, including the LEGO Iron Man Mark 45 minifigure (with flip-up face-plate, of course), two Sub-Ultron Trooper minifigures and a Sub-Ultron Officer minifigure–but this set just isn’t as grandiose as the new LEGO Quinjet or the LEGO Hulkbuster set.
That said, LEGO 76029 Iron Man vs. Ultron does make for an excellent army-builder set with three Ultron Sentries included and a cool stud-shooting flying vehicle that the bodies of the Ultron Drones can attach to. Crazy! You also get one of the new-for-2015 LEGO “Super Jumper” accessories with this set, but thus far I’ve found that the “Super Jumpers” work very poorly and aren’t that much fun.
Though this set is my least favorite of the wave, for $12 plus free shipping, there’s no way I was going to pass on picking it up early. Hopefully it will arrive early enough this week that I’ll have a chance to build and fully review it before I leave for the New York Toy Fair 2015 this Friday.
The 76029 LEGO Avengers Age of Ultron Iron Man vs. Ultron set is now available for order, although the official release date for the set isn’t until March 2015. I imagine that we’ll be seeing these Avengers Age of Ultron LEGO sets beginning to hit actual retail stores toward the end of the month, despite the official release date (which is almost always broken by stores stocking LEGO products).
Are you psyched to see the LEGO Marvel 2015 sets beginning to arrive, Marvel collectors? Will you be ordering the LEGO 76029 Iron Man vs. Ultron set, or are you holding out for the larger and more expensive LEGO Avengers 2 movie offerings?
Hi, It’s gone? What happened to it? Did they pull it cause of the street date?
Thanks Charles
Nope–they didn’t pull it. Looks like Amazon sold through their entire first shipment already. I got my order in, so I’ll try to review the set before I leave for Toy Fair this week.
