Just hearing the word “limited edition” will get me to sit up straight and take notice without fail. Whether it be statues, action figures or food (the most insidious limited item of them all), attaching the word “limited” instantly make something more desirable. And as usual, Funko is ready to capitalize on this phenomenon. Coming soon to Hot Topic stores–numbered, limited edition Marvel Funko POP Vinyl T-Shirts!
Even so, I have a bunch that Funko POP! Tees is going to be the hottest line (okay, the only line) of collectible T-Shirts ever! In essence, Funko is bringing the collectible and limited edition nature of its POP Vinyls line to T-Shirt form. The Funko T-Shirts will be available exclusively at Hot Topic and will have numbered, limited edition runs. Sound like fun…? I think so!
The first three Marvel Funko POP Tees to be unveiled are Black Widow, Rocket Raccoon & Baby Groot and Loki Tees. These are great choices, as the designs for all three are adorable renditions of fan-favorite characters. The POP Tees Black Widow shirt with her hair blowing in the wind is particularly eye-grabbing. In fact, now I want a toy of that!
It’s interesting that one of the shirts is a Funko POP Vinyls Blue Rocket Raccoon holding a potted Baby Groot–a design that has not been released or revealed yet in toy form. Will we be seeing this Funko Rocket Raccoon & Baby Groot POP Vinyl figure very soon…? The Magic 8-Ball says “Outlook good”!
It appears that the size of the shirts will be written on the side of the box (under the shirt’s number in the line), and the boxes themselves will have a “missing” front window so that you can reach through and touch the shirt itself.
Hot Topic usually prices their T-Shirts around $25, but with the exclusive nature of these Funko Tees and the special boxed packaging, I wouldn’t be surprised to see these priced at retail for $30-$35 (whether or not anyone will actually buy T-Shirts for that price is another matter).
No official pricing or release dates have been announced yet for the Hot Topic Exclusive Funko POP! Tees line of T-Shirts, but Funko generally starts showing off prototypes about three months before items hit stores–so I would anticipate these Funko Marvel POP Tees being out around late summer.
How do you feel about the idea of some of the more popular Marvel POP! Vinyls figures being immortalized in apparel form, Marvel collectors? Will you buy any limited Funko T-Shirts of Loki (or whoever), or is this one step too far removed from your collecting style?
These are neat, but by now you might as well change the sites’ name to Marvel Merchandise News.
“Marvel Merchandise News”… I like that! It’s a bit too long to type out though for a domain name…
30$ for a t-shirt? Pass
Yeah it is pretty pricey, I would just invest in one or two cool ones tho
I want to see what the goku one looks like open ?
