Kotobukiya has made a habit of whetting collectors’ appetites with a teaser very soon after each Marvel Kotobukiya Bishoujo statue is revealed, and following this week’s full reveal of the Bishoujo Jubilee, they’re continuing that trend. And this time, Kotobukiya has chosen one of the most legendary of all classic Marvel heroines–it’s our first teaser image of the Kotobukiya Wasp Bishoujo statue!

Considering that Janet Van Dyne is one of only five founding Avengers (and the only woman on the founding Avengers lineup), you might think that there would be copious amounts of merchandise out there for The Wasp. There’s not.

In fact, the Wasp has been tragically shorted on toys and high-end merch over the years. Outside of the Bowen Designs Wasp statues and mini-busts, she’s been overlooked entirely for any kind of releases besides basic action figures.

But as the Kotobukiya Bishoujo Marvel line continues to expand, it’s finally The Wasp’s turn to shine in 2015! I’m honestly surprised that Koto has chosen to release The Wasp before a Bishoujo She-Hulk or Captain Marvel, but there’s no denying the Wasp’s worthiness for inclusion in any line of Marvel women collectibles.

It appears that Wasp will be captured in her well-known black and yellow costume (the same costume used for the Vinylmation Wasp and the Marvel Infinite Series Wasp), although the Wasp probably has more potential for repaint costume variants than any superhero character ever. Could we see a SDCC 2015 Kotobukiya Wasp variant statue? Place your bets!

I would be very surprised if Kotobukiya had anything beyond the full concept art for the Wasp Bishoujo statue to show at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 next week, but stranger things have happened. Even so, I think it’s far more likely that the Kotobukiya Bishoujo Wasp figure will make its debut at New York Comic Con 2014 in October.
