Diamond Select Toys’ Marvel Gallery line of PVC statues is the gift that keeps on giving, bringing us multiple new low-priced statues from Marvel comics and movies virtually every single month. This month is no exception, and the newest offerings are among some of the best that we’ve seen from the line to-date: the Marvel Gallery Iron Spider, Unmasked Star-Lord and Cloak & Dagger statues are now up for order!
The highlight of this batch—and maybe one of the all-time highlights of this series—is the Marvel Gallery Iron Spider Statue. While the Infinity War lineup has been a bit of a mixed bag (the Infinity War Iron Man is one of my least-favorite DST Gallery statues yet), this Iron Spider looks downright phenomenal.
I was planning on buying the resin Iron Spider Marvel Premier Collection Statue, but I think this $40 PVC may actually look even better than that $150 version does, somehow or other.
The pose on Iron Spider-Man looks terrific, there’s loads of textured sculpting detail, and the Titan terrain base adds to the piece—this is an all-around win for DST, and almost certain to be one of their top-selling figures for this line thus far.
The second piece this month isn’t the jaw-dropper that the Iron Spider Gallery figure is, but it’s one that makes me smile nonetheless: Marvel Gallery Unmasked Star-Lord. I vaguely recall an unmasked Chris Pratt head hanging out at the Diamond Select Toys booth at New York Toy Fair 2018 that ended up never being released, and it looks like we’re finally getting unmasked Chris Pratt this winter.
While this isn’t exactly a Hot Toys caliber sculpt, I can see the Chris Pratt likeness in this Peter Quill portrait a million times better than I could in the Marvel Legends or Select versions. Besides the new head, this is otherwise just a variant of the previous Star-Lord Marvel Gallery Statue, but I dig this version a lot. Instant buy for me.
Lastly, we’ve got the one new comics-based entry for the month—and it’s a really good one! Cloak and Dagger don’t get statues very often—in fact, I can’t remember them ever getting one besides the Bowen Designs mini-bust—but they’re getting some love from DST in PVC figure form!
And having Cloak be the base is pretty dang clever. I won’t hold my breath for any other company to release a Cloak & Dagger Statue, but I don’t really need to—this one is a real eye-catcher.
The Marvel Gallery Cloak & Dagger, Iron Spider and Star-Lord Unmasked statues are all up for order now with discounted $39.99 pre-order prices. All three are scheduled to be released in December 2018. I don’t buy every DST Marvel Gallery Statue (who has that kind of space?), but they’ve fiendishly ensnared my dollars for all three of these beauties.
Thoughts on this latest wave of Diamond Select Marvel statues? Do you think this Iron Spider is the best Marvel movie Statue DST has produced to-date, and will he (or either of the other new releases) be joining your collection this winter? What other quasi-obscure Marvel characters like Cloak and Dagger would you like to see get the statue treatment?
The Star Lord unmasked head is an extra kick in the stones as we were meant to get one with the Select version as stated on the back of the box and didn’t. Thought we might get one as a Disney exclusive. But it’s not looking that way. The Spidey looks really cool though.
Spidey looks great but i don’t understand why he looks like he’s on a stump in Wakanda? Dumb. Starlord statue is nothing special though the likeness has improved! As for Cloak and Dagger, i like it but I will wait… with their Netflix show coming I’m sure there will be more merchandise on the way
