Having already talked about all the various live-action MCU and Netflix statues that Diamond Select Toys solicited earlier this week, that just leaves two left to discuss: the comic-based duo! One of these we first saw debuted at San Diego Comic Con, and the other is an all-new reveal that we won’t be able to get our mitts on until Free Comic Book Day 2019—the Marvel Gallery Thor and Symbiote Spider-Man statues!
While the Gallery PVCs line has definitely increased its emphasis on movie- and TV-styled characters this year, there’s still been a steady supply of comic characters joining the line for the first time this year, including Venom, Carnage, Thanos, Squirrel Girl, Rogue, Wolverine and many more.
But perhaps the most integral character getting his first comic style Gallery PVC this year is the Mighty Thor, captured in his Marvel NOW armor. Shockingly, this is the third Thor Gallery Statue, with two movie-styled ones already solicited.
While I might have preferred a Classic Thor, I’m far from turning my nose up at the one we’re getting. The lightning effects pieces surrounding the base are a unique touch, as is the dynamic pose the God of Thunder is rocking. For a $40 Statue, this is fun, different, and well-executed. Win!
The second of the two Marvel Comics Gallery statues in the latest solicits is a bit of a special case in that it’s exclusive to comic book stores… for the 2019 Free Comic Book Day! DST has never had a FCBD Exclusive Statue before, so I’ll be really interested to see how and where this will be available for pre-order (if anywhere).
So what is the Free Comic Book Day exclusive? Well, for the second time in the three years of this DST line’s existence, a red and blue Spider-Man Statue is being repainted into Black Costume Spider-Man!
I actually was very unimpressed with this Spidey mold until I saw it in person at Comic Con, and even then I wasn’t really in love with it. But what a difference a coat of paint makes…! As a new Symbiote Spider-Man figure, I think this mold really shines and looks superb. As soon as I find somewhere to do so, this is an insta-buy for me.
The Marvel Gallery Modern Thor comic book-styled Statue is now up for order, and is scheduled to be released in April 2019. As it’s a comic book piece, it should be available for a good, long period of time and be eligible for reprints if it sells through swiftly. I’ve yet to find anywhere to pre-order Symbiote Spidey, but I’ll update this article as soon as I find somewhere to do so.
Now that I’ve talked about the over a half dozen Marvel statues that DST solicited this month, which are your favorites of the batch, and which (if any) are you planning to purchase yourself? Are you finding the comic book-based Gallery PVCs superior, or do the live-action ones reign supreme? And hey—has anyone managed to find a place to order that 2019 FCBD Exclusive Symbiote Spider-Man yet…?
Any word on the release for that Carnage statue? It’s been like, a year since it was revealed.
Will most assuredly. Purchase the Thor statue. Nice looking piece good quality at an affordable.affordabl readonable price. Thank you Diamond.
