As a huge fan of reasonably-priced statues that don’t have a humongous spatial footprint, Christmas comes at least once a month for me when Diamond Select Toys announces new Marvel Gallery PVC statues. And this month, DST has a trifecta of new pieces for our perusal: the Marvel Gallery Venom, Infinity War Iron Man, and movie Black Panther statues are now up for order!
And this month, Diamond Select Toys has one Marvel Gallery PVC statue I’ve seen in person, one statue I’ve only seen in photos from C2E2 2018, and one statue I’d never seen before at all before today’s solicitations!
First up, it’s the Marvel Gallery Venom Statue. This caught my eye at Toy Fair and I knew instantly that it was going to be a top-seller for DST (especially with an incredible-looking Carnage coming to complement it later on this year).
While a plethora of Venom statues have been released over the past two years, Diamond Select has come up with something TOTALLY unique for this 9” state. The symbiote merging with Eddie Brock makes for one of the most compelling Venom figures that I’ve ever seen. Love it!
In addition to this comic-based Venom, there are two movie-based statues slotted in for November/December 2018 as well. The more unexpected of the two is a new Marvel Gallery Black Panther V2 statue.
While we already have a cool Black Panther Gallery Statue from the movie on the way, that one isn’t as dynamic as the new version and also doesn’t have the glowing purple energy details that V2 does.
I don’t know how I feel about the flaming car base on this statue (it looks a bit too “plastic” to me), the T’Challa figure looks great. We need more Black Panthers with the energy effects on the costume!
Finally, we’ve got a statue that really knocked me for a loop: the Marvel Gallery Iron Man Mark 50 Statue! This Iron Man Mark L PVC really came out of left field, as it wasn’t shown or announced alongside the other DST Infinity War statues at all.
That said, this is my least favorite of this batch of statues. As much as I love Marvel Gallery PVCs, I think Iron Man’s metal armor usually looks better on resin statues than PVC ones, so I’ll be holding off on ordering this one (at least for now).
The Marvel Gallery Infinity War Iron Man, Black Panther V2 and Venom statues are now up for order. They’re all carrying the usual $44.99 MSRP, but they can be pre-ordered for $39.99 (5 bucks off) right now from EE and BBTS. The movie statues sometimes sell out quickly—Killmonger is already sold out from most retailers—so definitely consider pre-ordering if you’re intent on owning those.
DST has pitched three new statues in the Gallery line at us this month: are they three home runs, three strikes, or somewhere in between, Marvel collectors? Are any of this trio of statues on your potential buying radar?
Um what color are Iron mans arms, because in some pictures they’re yellow and not red. can you explain this
