The abrupt cancellation of New York Toy Fair 2021 took the whole collecting world by surprise, and is the likely cause of the recent dearth of new Marvel toy news and announcements. But Hasbro is coming to the rescue today with a bevy of new X-Men Legends figures going up for order that we’ve been waiting for the chance to buy since late last year: the 2022 Marvel Legends X-Men Bonebreaker Series is finally up for order!
Individual figure links:
Havok
Siryn
Sabretooth 1st Appearance
Return of Wolverine
Vulcan
Maggott
Darwin
The case breakdown for this X-Men Legends 2022 wave will be as follows:
(2) “Hot Claws” Wolverine
(1) “First Appearance “ Sabretooth
(1) Havok
(1) Siryn
(1) Darwin
(1) Vulcan
(1) Maggott
While some fans will balk at this particular figure of Wolverine being the one double-packed figure in the case (the heat claws were heavily panned by comic book fans as soon as they manifested), I think long-packing a fairly standard-looking yellow and blue Wolverine figure was the only way Hasbro could really go in what’s otherwise a bit of a wacky assortment.
Never let it be said that Hasbro doesn’t take any risks: Four out of seven comic figures in this wave—more than half of the series—have never had a mass release action figure before (no, Marvel Minimates absolutely do not count).
Even so, I am downright thrilled with the character selection Hasbro has made here. Siryn is the second-last figure needed to complete the classic X-Force roster (I am certain we’ll see Feral and a 90s X-Factor Wolfsbane by the end of next year as well), and Maggott fans have been waiting for a toy of the South African mutant since Hasbro scrapped their prototype of him and his digestive-system slugs in the 90s.
Prices for the last X-Men Legends Sabretooth figure (from the Apocalypse BAF Series) have gotten out of hand on the aftermarket these days, so it will be nice to see him available again on shelves—even if this classic first appearance costume iteration isn’t precisely what most fans wanted. Hang in there, ML collectors—Hasbro has promised a new bulky, 90s style Victor Creed is coming down the pike as well!
It’s a bit unexpected to see a new Havok Marvel Legends figure in this lineup so soon after the last pair, but the all-new back and hand energy effects pieces make this the coolest action figure Alex Summers has ever gotten! I have to wonder if an AOA Havok is in the works to make more use of this awesome “back-circles” effects piece.
Even though I love the X-Men First Class movie and Peter David’s X-Factor, Darwin is a tough character for me to force myself to be interested in. I’m glad the more-interesting Gabriel Summers will complement him in this wave, though I think it borders on impossible that Hasbro will ever complete the Deadly Genesis team these characters originated as part of.
A Bonebreaker Build-A-Figure headlines (sort of) this series. The Reavers are not exactly a popular mainstream team, but I think there may be a surprising amount of interest in the half-man, half-tank cyborg—or at least Hasbro hopes so. Despite not having working treads, this Bonebreaker BAF still looks crazy amazing and his articulated shades are super cool.
The Marvel Legends 2022 X-Men Bonebreaker series is now available for order, and is scheduled to ship out later this year. I would anticipate the fastest sellers here being the obvious ones: Havok, Sabretooth and Siryn. I have no doubt this modern Wolverine Legends figure will sell just fine, but should be readily available for a good duration due to being two per case.
Now that it’s up for sale at last, which 6” figures will you be picking up from this year’s inaugural wave of Marvel Legends X-Men, X-fans? Are you going for the whole lineup to build Bonebreaker, picking-and-choosing a few favorites, or passing on this wave altogether?
I’m excited for most of these releases. Some solid deep cut with Maggot and solidifying Vulcan in toy form. I’m not excited for Sabertooth (that we got not that long ago) and ANOTHER Wolverine with his already forgotten powers.
Anyone know how to order this whole set at a discount?
It’s borderline a crime that Vulcan has no power accessories!
Thought I was going to get Sabertooth, but after a closer look at his face in the ordering sites, he looks kinda hideous. Not in a monster bad guy sort of way. More of a cartoony chonky face way. Guess I’ll have to pass on the exact Sabertooth figure I’ve been waiting for. They failed me in the delivery.
