Marvel Legends Astral Dr. Strange & Enchantress Announced!

Last week when I reviewed the SDCC 2016 Marvel Legends Enchantress figure, I bemoaned the fact that the anticipated and oft-rumored single-packaged Enchantress figure wasn’t announced for the Marvel Legends Doctor Strange Series during the show. Well, it looks like we just had to be patient and wait for all of those box sets to be sold, because hot on the heels of The Raft selling out online, Enchantress and Astral Form Doctor Strange Marvel Legends figures have been revealed!

Marvel Legends Doctor Strange Enchantress Figure Packaged

Alright, this is definitely one for be conspiracy theorists out there: although Hasbro chose not to confirm the heavily-rumored single-packaged Enchantess Marvel Legends Dr. Strange series figure.

But lo and behold, the same week as HasbroToyShop sells off the last of the Raft sets online, hi-res images of the Amora the Enchantess figure have now been sent out!

Doctor Strange Marvel Legends Enchantress Six Inch FigureNow, I know that reissuing a just-released con exclusive that’s been selling for $60-$70 on the aftermarket is going to cheese off a lot of collectors who paid hefty prices for her, but I think it’s ultimately a good thing that such a popular and integral Asgardian character is getting a second release.

And hey, it’s not like the SDCC Raft Enchantess isn’t still exclusive–the mass-release version has slightly different paint deco, including less metallic paints and more matte paints that I don’t like quite as much.

Astral Form Doctor Strange Marvel Legends Figure PackagedBut Amora isn’t the only new figure officially announced for the series today! Also as rumored, there’s a third iteration of Dr. Strange himself coming as part of his series: a Marvel Legends Astral Doctor Strange figure!

Unlike the exclusive SDCC 2015 Astral Form Doctor Strange figure, this iteration is using the Benedict Cumberbatch movie mold and not the comic-based mold used for the Book of Vishanti set.

I always dig translucent figures, and while this version doesn’t look as neat as the Funko Dorbz and POP Vinyls versions of Astral Strange, I still think he’s pretty cool.

Marvel Legends Astral Form Doctor Strange FigureAnd with this, the Doctor Strange movie Marvel Legends series has grown to a full eight-figure series! That means that, much like the mega-popular X-Men Juggernaut Series, each case will have one complete set of Dr. Strange Legends figures with one Dormammu Build-A-Figure and no doubles! The set should be available for pre-order online sometime in the next few weeks.

What do you think of the final additions to the Marvel Legends Doctor Strange movie figures series, Marvel collectors? Are you excited at mass-release versions of Enchantress and Astral Form Doctor Strange, or were you hoping for never-before-done characters instead?

Marvel Legends Astral Dr. Strange & Enchantress Announced! — 35 Comments

  1. This slightly reduces my anger at being unable to order the Raft set even when it IS available and in stock on the website.
The send me a notification saying it’s in stock, I go to the website and it IS in stock, but no gorram “BUY” button anywhere on the page.

    It’s infuriating.

  2. Dammit.
I just realized that they didn’t change the neck peg on the Dormammu body into a clear plastic that would let more light bounce around in the head.
That’s probably the #1 big change that figure needed to be great….
    :/

  3. I’m glad Enchantress is being solo released. As for the news itself, something had been mentioned at SDCC about her being a swap figure as part of the line. I was lucky enough to obtain Hela and the Mystic Pack off Hasbro in 2015, so my Norse line will be looking good with Amora (whose personality is cognate with the Goddess Frejya, even though Marvel now features a named-goddess Freyja in the comics).

      • I really do need to go and re-read old Thors. I’ve followed Thor since the early 1980s, but I missed a lot of stuff before the Walt Simonson run. In any event, Amora “behaves” like Freyja. Matt Fraction reintroduced Freyja around 2011 as a matronly figure, but in Snorri Sturluson’s tales from the 14th century, she–though perhaps not malicious like Amora–uses magic to seduce Gods and giants and is a Goddess who men lust for, much like Enchantress.

  4. So 8 parts?…..
    1 Head – Astral Strange
    2 Torso – Amora
    3 Shoulder Armor
    4 Crotch and Skirt
    5 Leg L
    6 Leg R
    7 Arm L w/ Flaming Skull
    8 Arm R w/ Flaming Skull

    Something like that^^^, I assume????

I’m not thrilled about that Astral Strange – the white and lack of cape.
Not a fan of the 616 Strange being such a retread of the Hulkbuster Strange.
    Not SUPER fond of Mordo…
And then I already have Dormammu, and this looks like it’s going to be almost the exact same…..

Nico Minoru, MCU Strange, Iron Fist, Enchantress, and Brother Voodoo are cool (even if I already have Doctor Voodoo).

I was hoping we were getting a 616 Ancient One figure and that the Astral Strange would just be a Walgreens exclusive variant or something, as was originally rumored.

I don’t know how I feel about getting this wave as a whole now.
May end up only getting like half of this wave….
    *beard stroke*

  5. I have this and last year’s exclusive iterations, so I am free to pick up the MCU figures and Nico and skip the rest. Its a nice feeling for once. I mean, I will undoubtedly eventually cave and buy all of them, but I don’t have to stress and can get them on sale. Which will happen eventually, as I don’t see this assortment being super popular, even if the movie turns out amazing.

    • I would bet money that there will be a Jane Thor figure in one of the Thor waves next year. Big movie coming out and her book is still pretty popular right now. Especially now that we’ve gotten Nova, Ms. Marvel and a Sam-Cap, I’m pretty confident we’ll get her.

    • Do you have Marvel Select’s Jane Foster from the “The Dark World”? She’s taller than Marvel Legends, but is a good likeness. The figure wears a long gown, though, which limits a lot of articulation, but it’s a good figure.

      • I do not believe they mean the MCU version of Jane Foster, I believe they are referring to the ANAD Thor, who is currently Jane in the comics.

  6. With the exception of the gold belt, I think the SDCC Enchantress looks better. This will be another pass for me. I don’t collect MCU figures. I will be getting Iron Fist, because I love the classic green costume. Maybe Nico too because she looks rad but that is about it.

    • If they would have made her arm sleeves gold and kept the light green that would have been perfect.

      • Kind of silly that they changed her blouse color to dark green, gave her a gold belt and kept the arm sleeves light green. Just too much going on. Gold arm sleeves, gold belt, light green blouse and tiara thing and she would be better than the exclusive. But the way she is now, too much going on color wise.

        • Yeah, I’m with you about it being a shame Hasbro changed the color scheme. However, I absolutely can’t afford the Raft set, but I’m an Asgard fan and longtime fan of Enchantress. I lucked out and got the Vishanti set from 2015, and thus snared Hela. So, I can’t complain too much about Amora’s individual release. As for changing the color to satisfy Raft holders, I have Dormammu, and though his re-release leaves me indifferent, I’m not so jealous as to demand my Vishanti version be special! Besides, if you can buy the exclusives via Hasbro, the unit cost per figure is reasonable (about $25 / fig) and it is not as if we paid a premium for Dormammu, just to see Hasbro undercut us with the exact same figure, re-released.

    • Good man. 😉 It is perverse how at the cons half the people lined up for exclusives are probably re-sellers. When you think about it, that’s a lot of work for $100 in profit (traveling to San Diego, buying tickets, buying lodging, standing in line for several hours). When I think about it, con-scalpers seem more like obsessive-compulsives than like rational business people.

      • It appears that Hasbro is beginning to think like “rational business people”. Why spend $$$ on sculpts for exclusives and then never use it again? (Light bulb) Re-use with different coloring schemes in future waves.

        • Yeah, I can’t get over the idea of mass toy makers like Hasbro producing toys that nobody can buy. It seems as if Psylocke from the X-Factor exclusive would be at least as popular as Kitty Pryde in this year’s Juggernaut wave.

    • I lucked out and managed to get the Vishanti exclusive from Hasbro Toy Store. Hela is a nice figure. I converted a wooden art-reference hand into her throne. She would make a great re-release to coincide with the upcoming Ragnarok, maybe even with a BAF of Surtur (granted, he’d likely be no taller than Dormammu).

    • No they won’t, hasbro knows that collectors demand exclusive figures and a few figures will indeed stay exclusive. Hela, dreadknight, magik, psyloche and ghost are a few examples of figures that will never see a release again. I like it that way personally. The whole point of those special pieces is the process of trying to get it. Otherwise what’s the point of exclusives? There are some figures that I don’t have in my collection ion but I’m not over here crying about it. If you want it that bad pony up the cash and buy it off eBay. I will never pay more than retail for a figure, I can live without a piece of plastic if I’m not getting it for retail. The only type of figure that justifies the insane prices they go for on eBay imo are prototypes and figures that only exist in single or double digit numbers. All the whining about scampers but pits the petty gotta have it types that make that possible. If I miss an exclusive when they are released then that’s that for me. I don’t need it bad enough to pay double.

      • I’m not at all convinced we won’t see Marvel Legends Hela released at mass retail next year to coincide with Thor Ragnarok. Hasbro would be crazy not to.

And if the New Mutants movie ever actually does occur, I’m sure that’s when we’ll see Magik as well.

Dreadknight and Ghost, well… I’m glad I got those with the exclusive sets. Ha.

      • If “Hasbro knows that collectors demand exclusive figures”, can you explain why did they release Archangel in the Hit Monkey wave? If there is one exclusive figure that hardcore collectors could vote on to remain as an exclusive, wouldn’t you agree that Archangel be a top contender for that spot? Yet Hasbro did it. Furthermore, I don’t think the demand for the exclusive silver/blue/black version was impacted after the magenta/blue/silver version was released. I see it as a “win-win-win”. The lucky collectors have an exclusive, rare figure with a one color scheme; some not so lucky collectors have a not so exclusive figure in a different color scheme; and Hasbro…Cha ching!!!

  7. I still think this is the weakest legends wave of the year but I’m super pumped that we are getting another 8 figure wave!!! As soon as the wave goes up for order on EE and I’m complete for 2016 legends (sans a few of the store exclusives I’ve been unable to find/aren’t out yet) Just so happy there’s no doubles…don’t have to worry about selling any duplicates…wish every wave was 8 figs!!! 2016 in the bag now so I can just focus on Black Series for the rest of the year…whew what a amazing year for legends and by far the best legends year ever imo

  8. All the kids will go nuts for an unpainted figure, there’s no way it will be sitting on the shelves at Wal-Mart for 18 months.

    • LOL! The astral form of Benedict Cumberbatch looks more opaque white than translucent from the pictures. I’m sure this will sell like hotcakes!

      • well I for one am glad when things pile up on the pegs, more boxes to compare against each other for good paint apps… wait… oh.

        • And on the subject of shelf-warmers, Hasbro Toy Shop put nearly the entire Ultron BAF wave on sale for $5.99 each. If I weren’t broke and ambivalent about the Ultron BAF, it would be a wave to jump on.

        • Well I’m sure you have the best looking Hawkeye figure produced then.

I hit up a half dozen Targets and Wal-Marts this weekend. They all have tons of the same six figures. Hawkeye, Machine Man, Beetle, Speed Deomn, Cottonmouth, etc. Hawkeye is the worst, most stores have at least one peg that’s just solid Hawkeyes. TRU had a whole row of Hawkeye pegs. I probably saw over 50 of just him this weekend, all at full price.

Meanwhile I’ve never seen the Giant Man wave, only saw half the Thanos wave once, and have never seen Spider-Gwen or Venom. I doubt I will get a chance to buy Deadpool at a reasonable price either.

I have seen other toy lines die because of a bad distribution model though. A few packs clog up retail shelves and new products never get released because they’re still waiting for the old ones to sell. Retailers get upset by the bad sales numbers and quit stocking the product altogether. Without the support of big box stores the economics don’t work for the manufacturer. I hope that doesn’t happen here.

          • Machine Man is such a fantastic looking figure.
Probably the coolest paintjob of any figure in the last 3 years at least.

            Hawkeye is pretty good.

The rest are predictable peg warmers.

  9. I think this new color scheme makes the Enchantress more “realism”. I can envision her waking up one day and say to herself, “Today I’ll wear the metallic lime color arm bands instead of the green ones that I’ve been wearing the past week; and maybe a shiny gold belt to offset my green skirt”. Generally speaking, women are more fashion conscience than men. 🙂

    • I should proofread more carefully, I meant to say “…gives the Enchantress more realism”,
