When the Avengers Infinity War movie hit theaters two years ago, it introduced millions and millions of fans to villains that non-comic book readers were likely not very familiar with: the Black Order. The four “Children of Thanos” turned out to be a prominent and powerful force in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the figures of the quarter were spread out over a year and very difficult for many fans to acquire. But Hasbro has come to the rescue of those collectors in need: an Amazon EXCLUSIVE Marvel Legends Children of Thanos box set containing the whole Black Order–and an updated Endgame Thanos!–is now up for order!
Just when I thought that the new Spider-Man Legends Black Cat Retro exclusive announced earlier this week might be the final surprise that Hasbro had up their sleeves for the Marvel Legends 2020 lineup, they go ahead and reveal and launch pre-orders out of nowhere for what’s sure to be one of the most-demanded movie set multi-packs ever: the Children of Thanos Amazon Exclusive 5-Pack!
Let’s take a look at the five figures that make up this set, and what makes them different from their original releases…
The artwork on the back of the box for this set is just stunning. I wouldn’t mind if Hasbro offered an art print of this image, honestly! Looks amazing.
The ML “Children of Thanos” figures set includes updated versions of the following:
- Proxima Midnight
- Corvus Glaive
- Thanos
- Ebony Maw
- Cull Obsidian
There’s no way that this set would have been made without a figure of Thanos himself being included, but I’m pleased that Hasbro is at least giving us a refreshed versions of the movie Thanos Legends figure as part of this pack (the third release of this basic mold).
The paint deco itself looks to have been improved a bit, but the big prize here is the all-new “burnt” left arm and “burnt” face, damage that Thanos sustained by utilizing the full power of the Infinity Gauntlet. It wouldn’t have made a ton of sense to make the rest of the Black Order and not include the Mad Titan himself in a set of this nature, and I’m okay with this somewhat new release.
Corvus Glaive was previously only released as part of a difficult to find Walmart exclusive 2-Pack with Infinity War Loki, so fans who missed out will be pleased to have another crack at Proxima’s beau. The paint looks tremendous on this version.
Far and away the biggest “carrot” to sell this set to fans who already own all of the characters is the new Marvel Legends Cull Obsidian figure, which is hugely different from the more comics-based Build-A-Figure in the hard-to-find 2018 series. This is infinitely closer to what fans saw in the movie than the previous version of Cull Obsidian, and I can see many fans who already have the BAF drooling over this release.
Ebony Maw looks largely unchanged from his 2019 release to me. Maybe his paint deco is subtly improved, but of all the figures in this set, this is the one I feel the least tickled about.
And finally, we have a much-improved repaint of ML Proxima Midnight. The colors were completely off on the prior version of Proxima, and this is definitely an upgrade over what we saw previously.
The Marvel Legends Black Order Children of Thanos 5-Pack is now up for order exclusively on Amazon, and is scheduled to ship in mid-December 2020 (just in time for the holidays!). The set is priced at $119.99, which seems fair since it contains two previous Build-A-Figures and two figures that were priced higher as exclusives last year.
How do you feel about this complete lineup of the Black Order in one box set, Marvel Legends fans? Did you miss out on collecting these villains the first time out and have some level of excitement about getting them in one shot now?
Hi Dabid, hope “you and yours“ are doing ok and staying safe right now. I just wanted to ask if you will be doing anything on the new Hawkeye and Wolverine Day’s of future past Diamond Gallery statues that have been announced for pre-order. I realise it’s a little off topic for this piece but I was reminded that the Gallery Black Order statues were cancelled (I found this out by accident. Mine are still listed with my pre orders on Forbidden Planet. lol) even though they seemed to sell out pretty quickly on the main distributors, Entertainment Earth, BBTS etc. I entirely understand things are a little crazy at the moment and you may not have the time to do everything coming up for order. I just thought I’d ask as many collectors get much of their info from you.( I know I do) Just thought I’d ask anyway. Once again take care and be safe. Chris✌️
PS: These look great !!! I’m only a little bit jealous !! 😂
The Cull Obsidian 2018 wave was NOT hard to find. It filled the shelves for months and you can still find Wasps and Malekiths on shelves today…
Either these are bad photos they’ve taken or the figures look to be cheaper in quality than the first releases. The photos are never the same as holding one in your hand, so it could just be that. Not digging their likenesses in these pictures at all though. Thanos looks like he just sucked a lemon.
Ebony Maw and Proxima Midnight both have new headsculpts. The snapping hand with Thanos is new, too.
I really want this set! It looks so amazing and I am really into the bigger characters that hasbro makes so this is win win I might end up buying it.
As someone who did manage to get the whole previous set, I just have one thing to say: ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!! Regardless, this is a good opportunity for people to snag the whole movie accurate set. It’s funny how each release of this Thanos figure keeps getting me to buy it or at least a part for it. This is actually the FOURTH version of this figure. Unless you live in Europe it’s easy to forget the BaF version for the “Best Of” wave. I bought a Thor from that set just to get the grimacing head in the right color for the more accurate 3-Pack version. Luckily, of the three versions out now, the golds are all pretty much the same and the gauntlet hand unplugs nicely. So if you’ve gotten at least the one of the BaFs and the 3-Pack figure (like I foolishly have) then you’ll have a fist, grasping hand, and a snapping hand and potentially four or five different heads, provided the lavender matches the Best Of/3-Pack version. That’s quite the swath of accessories for our dear Mad Titan. Now it’d be nice if we could get the ENDGAME Thanos BaF rereleased and updated. Give it a better paint job, ankle tilts, screen accurate blade, a right hand nano gauntlets missing the power stone, and a right fist grasping the power stone. That’d be awesome.
Cull Obsidian is definitely the most improved here. Anyone else feel like he’s about to go out and plow his fields with that tool?
