There’s no question about it: the Hasbro Marvel Legends 6″ figure line is the single hottest Marvel toy line in existence today. But even amongst this sales juggernaut’s selections, there are figures more hyped and anticipated than almost any others. And one of them happens to be the first-released articulated MCU Spider-Man action figure ever! The Marvel Legends Civil War 3-Pack Spider-Man has now been released, and we can see in these photos that the hype was warranted!
My own set hasn’t arrived just yet, but reader Josh Ford was awesome enough to send in these in-hand photos of the trio for me to run here on Marvel Toy News. Thanks, Josh!!
While there were some people grumbling that the Civil War Spider-Man Marvel Legends figure looked like a repaint or a retool when the first images surfaced, it’s very apparent from the in-hand photos that this is a brand new sculpt.
The scale of this Marvel Legends Spider-Man figure also wasn’t immediately clear from the prototype photos, but we can see in these photos that Hasbro has correctly scaled this Peter Parker as a teen who stands noticeably shorter than your average Marvel Legends six inch figure!
You can see the painted details on the underside of Spidey’s forearm really well in this shot of him holding Cap’s shield.
While I can’t vouch for my own CW Spidey (as I don’t have him yet), Josh says that the paint applications on his are very well-done–especially on the black lines of the costume (an area that is usually quite tricky for QC).
Josh says that the articulation on this MCU Spidey figure is pretty comparable to that of the extremely popular (and extremely well-articulated) Pizza Spider-Man figure from 2015, so rejoice, super-articulated fans!
Unlike the new movie Spider-Man, the other two figures in this three-pack are just repaints of the Cap and Iron Man Mark 46 figures from the Marvel Legends Captain America 2016 Wave 2 series. Iron Man includes an MCU Tony Stark head, but the likeness to Robert Downey Jr. is unfortunately, well… minimal.
That said, I think the paint deco on this particular battle-damaged Iron Man six inch figure looks really cool. Hasbro rarely gives us battle-damaged Iron Man figures, so getting this one is a real treat.
The “mud” stains on the 6″ Captain America figure aren’t especially impressive, and he’s easily the weakest figure in this set, but I do appreciate that Hasbro is at least giving us some variety here with this battle-worn Cap.
The Captain America Civil War Marvel Legends 3-Pack is now in-stock and available for shipping from EE, where it will be exclusively available first until August 2016 (when the set is available for all major retailers to order). I wasn’t taking any chances and absolutely wanted that Spidey day one, so EE got my dollars on this set.
Now that you’ve seen in-hand photos of the set, what do you think of this Marvel Legends Captain America Civil War 3-Pack, Marvel collectors? Are you pleased with Hasbro’s all-new MCU Spider-Man figure, and do you think it’s worth purchasing this set just to get him?
Dorkside said they’ll have this for $39.99 Aug 1st- so for that price I might go for it.
Spider-Man looks awesome !
What’s a QC?
Quality Control.
Spiderman cool! Chest spider not so cool. Looks nothing like the movie one. Which is one detail you would think Hasbro would of got right. What a let down, for figure that can’t be sold as a single yet.
The figure was likely based on older concept art. Spider-Man’s design reportedly went through a lot of iterations because both Sony and Marvel had to sign off on them.
I know I’m in the minority, but sculpted line on a Spider-man just makes the figure look messy.
No, I agree. I loved the 2015 Spidey cause his lines were painted and looked crisp and neat. I hate engraved/raised webs on this one. I hope the figure for next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming will be better.
Absolutely agree. It was impressive when they first introduced etched lines on a Spidey figure, but I find myself favoring the smooth treatment, just like the costume in Civil War, a notable departure from all the Sony iterations.
I will never understand why if there are so many MU Characters… they keep issue and reissue the same one’s over and over.
I don’t get the excitement for this figure. Spidey’s lower arms are a MESS and even his shoulder stripe / chevron shape thing isn’t right. His mask and eyes are fine but overall his head doesn’t look properly scaled to his neck / body.
Spidey looks good for a movie figure. But I absolutely hate the MCU’s take on Cap’s uniform. The best version so far was the first Avengers movie as it looked most like Cap is supposed to. But this? Awful. He’s unrecognizable. That looks nothing like Captain America. What’s with the nautical star and the black or brown boots? Where is the red, white and blue? The red and white stripes all the way around the midsection? The boot cuffs? Why does Cap have a chin strap?
The nautical star is a symbolic star associated with the sea services of the United States armed forces. It’s not really a stretch.
It looks just like Captain America, and he is instantly recognizable as such. There costume is red, white, and blue. He’s wearing a chin strap so his helmet won’t fall off or get blown off. No one wears boot cuffs in comics today, not even Captain America.
No he isn’t. And no it’s not red white and blue. It’s dirty brown, dark blue, nautical stars and chin straps. He looks terrible. Who’s talking about comics today? In modern comics everyone is black and/or a woman now. We’re talking about Captain America in the MCU looking nothing like Cap. Stop defending garbage.
It’s a battle damaged version of a movie suit (it’s supposed to be muddy and dirty) which is itself a realistic rendition out of many that incorporates certain core elements of the character’s integral design. I would think Marvel, who created the character, and the movie suit represented in the figure, understands that more than you, and also that not all comic book costumes work as well as they do in their original 2D image medium as opposed to live action movies.
The suit is based off of various designs of the character, including recent modern versions – given that it’s a figure based on a modern set of films…
And you’ve just proven how out of touch with comics and comic characters you are with that comment about race and gender.
Whats wrong with dark blue? You sound like someone who’s never held a real U.S. flag in his hands. Those flags are dark blue. MCU Captain America looks great.
what is retail of this wonderful item?
The logo is wrong and it drives me bonkers.
Collectors want it as the 1st issue MCU Spidey, but aside from that aspect… i feel the fig itself is just awful. Spider logo wrong, color app wrong, webbing wrong. for $65 it’s a no go. i’ll wait till retailers put in on sale like the rest of the 3 packs did!
So I just got mine in hand and the only thing I really can’t get over is the “battle damage” which is just black smudgyness. It really doesn’t add anything.
any word if BBTS is going to have this set?
I believe they will, but not until Sunday. It was my understanding this set was intended to be EE’s exclusive until August 1st, so I don’t think BBTS will post theirs until then. I’m not saying other stores aren’t selling theirs right now–I’m just saying I don’t believe that they’re SUPPOSED to. 😉
