We’ve been wondering for months how collectors can get their hands on the Age of Ultron Marvel Legends Gold Ultron action figure that leaked out on ebay earlier in the summer, and now we don’t have to wonder anymore. The 6″ Marvel Legends Ultron (Gold) figure is “free” with purchase of the new Marvel Unlimited Plus digital comics subscription! But be prepared for sticker shock–this subscription is a rather pricey one…
Today, Marvel Comics introduced a new level of subscription to their Marvel Digital Comics brand, Marvel Unlimited. The new level is called Marvel Annual Unlimited Plus (I’m going to call it Marvel Unlimited Plus for short), and it’ll cost you a cool $99.99 per year.
That sounds a bit high on the surface, but you do get some worthwhile benefits and “free” (if you can call them that) incentives for signing up for Marvel Unlimited Plus.
If you’re into digital comics and like perusing the Marvel Comics Unlimited library (I’m absolutely not–I’m an old fogey who likes his comics paper or not at all), this very likely may be a great deal and package for you.
Aside from access to the Marvel digital comics library, there are a bunch of additional perks for Marvel Unlimited Plus members. You save 15% off comics purchased via the Marvel Digital Comics storefront, you get an exclusive Age of Ultron #10 variant cover comic book, the Marvel Legends 6″ Ultron figure, a membership card (that I would never be caught dead with) and a cool Age of Ultron art box that the whole kit comes in.
This introduction of Marvel Comics Unlimited Plus solves a months-long mystery of where the enigmatic Gold Ultron Marvel Legends 6″ figure that’s popped up occasionally on ebay would be available for regular purchase. Some said San Diego Comic Con 2013 or New York Comic Con 2013, but it turns out to be neither. Now we know the figure is “free” with a one-year subscription to Marvel Unlimited Plus, (but I think it’s far more likely I’ll purchase my Marvel Legends Ultron Gold variant from ebay, where it regularly sells for about 30 bucks).
What do you think about this, Marvel Legends collectors? Are you willing to shell out $99.99 this year to get the exclusive Marvel Legends Gold Ultron variant action figure (among other things), or is Marvel asking for too much of a commitment of your dollars for their Marvel Unlimited Plus digital service?
