Despite serving as the primary antagonist in this summer’s Thor Love and Thunder movie, I’m not sure that “Gorr the God Butcher” is ever going to be a household name. Even so, there are still plenty of comic book fans of Gorr who have been anxiously hoping for a comics-based 6” action figure of the character. And those fans’ patience is now being rewarded: a comic book version Marvel Legends Gorr the God Butcher figure is up for order on Amazon exclusively today!
Although the character hasn’t even existed for a decade yet, the Jason Aaron-created Gorr has become a huge fan-favorite Thor villain and even joined the pantheon of live-action MCU villains.
Gorr also made his mass market action figure debut this year as part of the Thor Legends Korg Series—and in addition to their movie styled 6” figure, Hasbro is now set to unleash a surprise comic book iteration super-articulated version of the God Butcher!
I was reasonably certain it was only a matter of time until Hasbro launched a Gorr Marvel Legends comic-based action figure, but they fully caught me off-guard announcing that said figure would be actually arriving in our hands this fall!
The good news is that not only is 616 Gorr coming soon, but he’s also looking extremely cool. He includes an interchangeable cloaked head that looks totally gnarly, as well as a swap-out hand with the deadly Necrosword. He’s also utilizing the 2015 Grim Reaper mold, which still packs a lot of excellent articulation despite being an aging base.
The bad news is that since the tooling parts that comprise the body are becoming antiquated, poor ML Gorr will have outdated pinned joints showing on both his arms and his legs. This is a real killjoy since we’re unlikely to get another comic book God Butcher any time soon. Furthermore, he’s going to be priced as a premium figure at nearly 30 bucks. Ouch.
Packaging hasn’t been revealed yet as of writing, but I’m assuming it will be one of the unpopular new window-free, plastic-free, all-cardboard boxes Hasbro has been going all-in on.
The Marvel Legends Gorr figure will be available exclusively first at Amazon today, and is scheduled to ship out in the next 1-2 months. He’ll also be available via other retailers starting in October.
What do you think of this comic book Gorr Legends figure, Marvel collectors? Is there still space on your shelf for this version of the villain, or are you passing on this slayer of Gods?
