UPDATE 4/27/2018: Not coincidentally-timed, Marvel Legends Infinity War Wave 2–the Cull Obsidian BAF series–is now up for order! As expected, Wasp and Ant-Man are the two double-packed figures! Now that you’ve seen Avengers Infinity War (and if you haven’t, get to it!), have you decided if you will be building the Cull Obsidian Build-A-Figure?
ORIGINAL 2/28/218: The Marvel Legends Avengers Infinity War series of 6” figures got off to a weird start, as the first wave of figures physically started arriving in stores while Hasbro still wasn’t able to even talk about them. But the time has come at last, and Disney has given the go-ahead for Infinity Wars toys to be revealed! And this morning, Hasbro premiered photos of three new Infinity Wars Legends figures that weren’t previously leaked: Thor, Blonde Black Widow and a Cull Obsidian Build-A-Figure!
But hey, us collectors always need to be looking ahead and have something else to look forward to, right…? And so, Hasbro gave us three more movie figures to look forward to today!
For those scratching their heads at the name “Cull Obsidian”, the character is known as “Black Dwarf” in the comics. The Black Order has never particularly intrigued me, but I’m hoping that will change once I see the characters in the MCU. Regardless, the Cull Obsidian Build-A-Figure is looking wicked.
Meanwhile, we’re also getting Marvel Legends Infinity War Black Widow with Blonde Hair and Thor with new hammer. It’s a bit of surprise to see Thor’s eye looking so well after the events of Ragnarok, but I suppose we do see him meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy in the trailer (and, y’know—Rocket Raccoon loves stealing body parts and probably has a cache of them somewhere).
It’s definitely going to take some getting used to seeing Scarlet Johansson with blonde hair as the Black Widow. In fact, the whole costume this figure is in is so different that I’m still having a hard time reconciling it as being the MCU Black Widow at all.
We saw the other four figures at New York Toy Fair 2018. The full lineup for Avengers Infinity War Marvel Legends Wave 2 is:
- Infinity War Thor
- Infinity War Black Widow
- MCU Ant-Man
- MCU Wasp
- Black Knight (comics)
- Malekith (comics)
- Cull Obsidian BAF
It’s sort of a weird wave with only two comic book characters and also figures from different movies in it, but I think it’s a good mix nonetheless. Malekith is a repaint of the SDCC 2017 Exclusive release.
I posted a fairly extensive album of hi-res photos on Facebook that I took of the new movie Wasp and Ant-Man figures from Toy Fair, so be sure to check that album out for a comprehensive look at those two awesome figures.
No word yet on when we’ll see pre-orders open up for the Marvel Legends Infinity War Wave 2 Figures, but we should be seeing Wave 1 up for sale online on or before 3/3/2018 (this Saturday). I’ll send out alerts via our Facebook/Twitter/Instagram once the figures are available online.
Now that the eclectic that is ML Infinity War Series 2 has been fully revealed, what do you think, Marvel collectors? Will you be buying the whole wave to build Cull Obsidian, picking up only the movie or comic figures, or skipping out on this series altogether?
Sooooo… what does Widow look like? 😉
ditto
wow , finally a baf that will be huge
And bow do you know it wi be “huge”? All we’ve seen are hi res images. No comparisons next to any other figures. Don’t assume that because it’s a big character, that the BAF will be equal. Need I remind, look at Sasquatch (10′ tall), and Black Dwarf…sorry, CULL Obsidian isn’t as tall.
Another website showed the Cull Obsidian next to a Hulkbuster and it was about 1 1/2″ shorter.
Infinity War Wave 2……only 2 figures from the movie…. I was hoping we could have the Bucky figure they previewed at GMA.
Bucky is coming in a two-pack with Falcon and part of Stan Lee later this year.
Infinity War wave 2……..only 2 Marvel figures from the comics. I was hoping we could have ANY Marvel character instead of double packing Paul Rudd and Evangiline Lilly.
It says above “As expected, Wasp and Ant-Man are the two double-packed figures!” and you also mentioned them being double packaged… pardon me for not knowing but what does that mean? I keep seeing it on the website and I’m pretty new to collecting so if you could tell me what it means I’d appreciate it.
“Double-packed” refers to “two-per-case”. The majority of figures released in Marvel Legends these days come only 1 per case of 8, so double-packed figures are heavily packed in the cases and easier to find. 🙂
+Damien, in 2019 Hasbro will finally unveil the Marvel Legends Series Ant-Man and Wasp Electronic Helmets a set of 2 being double packaged, when is it going to find a release date for those 2 electronic helmets
Tempting, very tempting. I just don’t like having to buy comic figures if I’m working on a mcu set
Man, oh man, Hasbro just sold a pre-order of this set to me! I was already going to be all over the Black Knight figure, but now I want all of them!
I have mixed reviews on this set, with mostly them being postiive:
BAF Cull Obsidian – AWESOME! Glad to see a large BAF. Why couldn’t they call him black dwarf like the comics? Some kind of racially insensitive name change? Also, not sure if I will get him because I love his figure, but I feel like if I get him I’d have to get the rest of the mcu black order and I HATE the BAF MCU thanos, and not that high on the proxima midnight.
Black widow – umm dislike. I mean I’m glad we are finally getting another black widow figure but come on this looks like trash. What’s wrong with her facial expression? And do I have to be the first to say that those “baton” weapons she has really look like SOMETHING else? Especially with the curvy rounded tips?!
Thor – Another awesome fig. Is this the first MCU thor we have gotten here in the US? He does look good. Love the armor. Strange about the eye but perhaps he does get it replaced. And the spoiler of including that axe bascially confirms he will get this new weapon in the movie. Guess I can go with it but would prefer mojinir.
Ant Man & Wasp – AWESOME movie figs. Glad we are finally getting another ant man MCU fig and the first wasp along with the interchangeable heads.
Malekith – Meh, I can skip him. Would have preferred an MCU figure but it was destined to be a repaint of the SDCC exclusive.
Black Knight is cool as well. Glad we are finally getting a Hasbro release which badly needed an update.
The MCU figs in this set work for me, even though I’m mostly a comic collector. Black Dwarf looks cool, and will go well with Proxima Midnight and Thanos, but part of me expected to see the full Black Order lineup. I’m also surprised it’s only a 6-fig series, when so many others this year are 7.
I started thinking I was going just pick and choose a few from this wave, but now that I look at it, there’s only one I don’t really want. That means I’d have all but one… not acceptible. One piece away from a build a figure? Not gonna happen. I’ll have to buy that Thor anyway just to finish the set.
Based on the Infinity War Lego sets and this figure it seems that Thor does get an eye back, also that set has Rocket in it so I wouldn’t be surprised if Thor gets that poor Ravangers eye from Guardians 2.
Wasp, Black Knight. That is all.
And my wallet is eternally grateful for the reprieve.
Damn. This is cool. The only ones I’ll probably be getting rid of are Cobra, Taskmaster and Malekith.
I think they will unveil the Marvel Legends Series Ant-Man and The Wasp Helmets so that’ll be 2 Electronic Helmets in an X-Large Rectangular Box
#1 Ant-Man Electronic Helmet
#2 Wasp Electronic Helmet
I bought wave 1 at Walmart this morning
Where’s Corvus and Ebony Maw??? An Outrider would be sweet too!
I’m really re
And where is Marvel Legends Series Ant-Man and The Wasp Electronic Helmets a set of 2, and Gamora Godslayer Electronic Sword would be sweet too!
>It’s sort of a weird wave with only two comic book characters and also figures from different movies in it
If I had to guess, it’s because this year was insanely crowded and the first Ant-Man Legends wave didn’t sell very well. They have to do waves to tie into Black Panther, Infinity War Deadpool 2 and Venom, as well the obligatory X-Men wave and however many Spider-Man waves. With that and the poor sales for the first Ant-Man movie, they probably felt it wasn’t worth it to do an entire Ant-Man and the Wasp wave.
Which is a shame, because I REALLY want Ghost.
We’ll find out if Marvel Legends Series will finally unveil Ant-Man and The Wasp Electronic Helmets so that’ll be 2 helmets in a rectangular box so when they’re aren’t crowded
The black dwarf is great reason to get the wave. Im hoping the baf will be huge but it will most probably be around 8inches .. Hasbro’s style of doing things.
So Malekith was released in a set last year (@ San Diego) yet NO comic Skurge?
ikr that would be really cool. I’d settle for a movie version on that one
I do like the comic figures.
do we have a street date yet for the wave 2
Nope! We won’t have any idea when they’re coming officially until Hasbro says something themselves or allows stores to open pre-orders for them.
Love the detailing on Cull Obsidian. Can’t wait to see it in person.
Anyone ever figure out the Walmart assortment sku for these?
Can’t wait to skip this entire wave. BRING ON SPIDER-MAN WAVE 2!!!!
So no extra surprise figures in this set?
Did we ever figure out which figures have the other hapf of culls torso and his weapon since it doesnt seem to be shown?
Can’t get a “surprise figure” if they’re doubling up on Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly figures!
Especially Hasbro will finally unveil Marvel Legends Series Ant-Man and the Wasp Electronic Helmets a set of 2 hopefully it’ll come til January 2019
It comes with Malekith, along with an arm. Pretty good value for a repaint that in my opinion looks better than the SDCC version.
For those interested (and this will of course annoy the “bigger is better” posse), I sized compared Cull with both the Thanos & Gladiator Hulk BAF’s. Most of you probably already know Thanos is a tick larger (taller) than Hulk (without the helmet) Just like in the movie (Just in case, let me say “SPOILER”), and Cull Obsidian is even larger than Thanos (also like in the movie). “Why would we be annoyed if he’s larger”? Because having seen the film (even I, due to my preoccupation with accuracy) am compelled to admit he isn’t large enough. He’s at least a full head taller than Thanos (in the movie). He does match up nicely to the Hulkbuster armor, so if Hasbro re-releases it with up to date paint apps they’ll both look good together (even though they’re both a bit undersized).
Someone need an alternate metal hand!
