Earlier this month we saw leaked photos of an unconfirmed Marvel Legends All-New X-Men set turn up on the internet. At the time, it was speculated that those figures would be the SDCC 2014 Marvel Legends exclusive set. Turns out that rumor was half-right: the All-New X-Men Marvel Legends set is an exclusive, but not to San Diego Comic-Con 2014! Coming 2/1/2014 to Toys R Us Stores: the Marvel Legends All-New X-Men figures box set!
Based on the hit Brian Michael Bendis All-New X-Men comic book series, the set includes five 6″ Marvel Legends action figures: Cyclops, Beast, Angel, Iceman and Jean Grey in their original X-Men costumes.
I don’t always love Bendis comics, but I am a big fan of both “All-New X-Men” and the original X-Men as they appeared way back when. So I am very pleased to be getting these Original X-Men figures at all, and even more psyched that they come altogether in a five-figure box set where each action figure averages out to only costing $17 each (man, what a world where I can say “only $17 each” as a positive thing and be serious!).
Toys R Us wouldn’t have been my first choice to have this set as an exclusive, as sometimes their exclusives can be truly hellish to track down at retail (I’m talking about you, Transformers Masterpiece Soundwave!), but I’m still far happier having this set as an exclusive to Toys R Us than as an exclusive for the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con.
Given that these figures are mostly made up of preexisting molds (and poor Iceman uses the awful Marvel Legends Klaw body), I’m glad this set is “value”-priced at “just” $85. I would’ve preferred if this set featured more new tooling, but if it was this set using recycled molds or no new Marvel Legends Original X-Men at all, I’ll take this set.
I really, truly hope that the production Original X-Men Angel Marvel Legends figure doesn’t have the total creeper expression seen on the prototype figure. Because with that expression, Angel is really kinda freaking me out.
The Toys R Us exclusive Marvel Legends All-New X-Men set is scheduled to be released on February 1, 2014 with an MSRP of $84.99. That’s a Saturday, which is sort of weird, but I have a hunch most stores will just start putting this set out on shelves as soon as they receive it.
Hopefully the Original X-Men Marvel Legends figures won’t immediately be snatched up and put on ebay by hordes of scalpers in the way that the Toys R Us exclusive Transformers Masterpiece Optimus Prime and Soundwave were!
I’ll post an update once this set is sighted in stores, and you can ‘Like’ Marvel Toy News on Facebook to have news, photos and updates sent right to your Facebook Newsfeed!
Now that you know the specifics on when, where and how much it’s going to cost you to pick up the Marvel Legends 2014 All-New X-Men set, are you planning to add this quintet to your collection, Marvel fans?
I think this set looks really cool. But living in Australia and not having access to a toys r us ANYWHERE near me, if the Australian stores them at all. Then I’ll probably have to wait for them to come eBay, which will be way overpriced and probably not with it
I agree that Toys R Us can be notoriously bad in getting these exclusives out but at least for those of us not going to SDCC there’s a better chance of getting them: TRU stores are a lot closer to all of us than CA.
Can’t wait, I’ll definitely be hunting this down at the local TRU. I hope I can get my hands on one. Love this site, btw.
They went up for preorder today on TRU.com. I ordered one. With shipping it came to $149.79. I think the price is a lil steep. I hope it’s worth it. By the way… Several hours later the preorder appeared to be sold out. It’s not listed online anymore if you search “Marvel Legends”. Good luck.
Went up to my local Toys R Us to pick a set up. They had 4 instock. The paint jobs on all 4 sets were horrible! Dark blues did not cover at all (bits of yellow showing through all over). Yellow had a dull orange highlight which looked like someone had just splattered it on. Very sloppy job around the masks and skin tones. Ended up not picking any up. Quality control Hasbro, quality control. I didn’t care that they were old molds, but I expect the figures to be visually appealing and these just didn’t cut it.
I saw a few of these on the shelf at TRU.
Paint application on all of them were horrible.
I had to pass. Way to pricey for such poor Quality Control. …
