After 25+ years of Marvel Legends figures, there aren’t too many high-profile X-Men villains left waiting for their first figure at this point. But there’s one major character whose toy fate has always seemed cloudy but is now finally getting her day in the plastic sun: the Amazon Exclusive Marvel Legends Destiny & Classic Rogue 2-pack is now up for order! Is this key member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and Krakoan Council prophesized to join *your* collection?
Despite being dead for over 3 decades in the X-Men comics before her resurrection during the recent Krakoan era, Destiny has emerged as a crucial character in X-Men history. As the adoptive mother of Rogue, the actual mother of Nightcrawler, the wife of Mystique, and a central member of both the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and the Krakoan Quiet Council, the stars have finally aligned for Irene Sadler to make her high-profile action figure debut!
Destiny won’t be coming to physical retail stores, but online shoppers are now able to scoop her up from the world’s largest retailer: Amazon. And Destiny isn’t coming alone—she’ll be packed with a classic Chris Claremont era version of her daughter, Rogue!
Destiny was more of a supporting character during her first life in the 80s X-Men comics, but decades of being dead made her far more important and prominent in the 616. Her death was a contributing factor to the creation of the Age of Apocalypse, and also Mystique’s prime motivation during the Jonathan Hickman Krakoa era. Once resurrected in 2021, she was a deciding vote of the ruling Quiet Council.
With her rise in importance in the modern X-Men comic books (and the reveal that Destiny is Nightcrawler’s mother), Hasbro has recognized that Irene’s moment to be immortalized as a 6” action figure is at hand, and I’m pleased with the product of her that we’re getting. The pin-less knees and elbows give the articulation a seamless aesthetic that looks great, and her mask is haunting as it should be.
A pair of unmasked heads to represent the old and reborn/young versions of Irene would have been really nice to have, but I’m just pleased to get a quality toy of her at all.
But while Destiny is the star of the show (for me, at least), she’s not coming alone! The other half of this set is a classic Rogue Legends figure, with a more sinister look from her early 80s appearances.
We’ve gotten our fair share of Rogue action figures over the years, but I really dug getting a more villainous version of her for once. She also makes a natural pairing with her adoptive mother, although what I -really- need now is an updated, pin-free Mystique with modern articulation.
This set is carrying a $49.99 MSRP on Amazon (where it’s exclusively available), which is in-line m with current $25/figure price. For me, this set is an absolute must-buy for the critical Destiny figure my shelf has been dying for. Will you be picking up this exclusive 2-pack, Marvel collectors?
I’m confused from your review — is Destiny Nightcrawler’s mom or Rogue’s mom? You said both.
Both. She’s Nightcrawler’s biological mother and Rogue’s adoptive mother.
Euh …no Destiny is not Nightcrawler’s mom …it s Mystique !!
No, that’s no longer accurate, as confirmed in 2023-2024 comics by Chris Claremont, Si Spurrier and Kieron Gillen. Destiny gave birth to Nightcrawler.
AAAAAAAAAND they got Rogue’s hair wrong. When she sported this look, the white streak was split onto the sides of her head, not grouped on top.
SLOPPY, Hasbro.
Wrong. Mystique is mother of Nightcrawler.
No, Mystique is Nightcrawler’s father. See X-Men Blue (2023) by Si Spurrier, as confirmed via Chris Claremont in X-Men #700 (2024).
