Hasbro is slowly but surely chipping away at the ranks of old Marvel Legends Build-A-Figures that need an updated re-release, and that trend continues today with the latest solo addition to the lineup: the exclusive Marvel Legends Ronan is now up for order! But is this Amazon Exclusive worth his deluxe price-point?
Many of the early Hasbro Marvel Legends Build-A-Figures cost an extortionate amount on the aftermarket to this day, but Hasbro has been working diligently to make these often essential characters available in a cost-effective manner with updates of former BAFs such as Apocalypse, Blob, Kingpin, Rhino, Lizard and more—and now the most famous warrior of the Kree will be joining those names!
Originally released over a decade and a half ago in 2007, Ronan the Accuser hasn’t received a comic book-styled update since. But in just a few months, everyone who wants one will be able to own their own 616 Ronan for a fraction of what he used to cost on ebay, as the individually boxed figure arrives in the modern Marvel Legends lineup.
But while the $38.99 retail price on this Accuser blows away legacy prices on the original, a lot of fans are still miffed about this release’s MSRP. And perhaps rightfully so—for nearly 40 bucks, Ronan gets a singular reused accessory—his iconic Cosmi-Rod of the Supreme Accuser.
While I commend making a past BAF that was unaffordable to newer collectors available again, I can’t help but feel like this is a sort of low effort $39 release. I would have personally at the barest minimum have liked some interchangeable fists for this Ronan, but apparently more small accessories didn’t cost out somehow or were deemed unnecessary. Regardless, I imagine this release will sell relatively well and fast to those desperately wanting to fill this character hole in their collection.
The 2023 Marvel Legends Ronan action figure is now available for pre-order, and is scheduled to ship in the spring. Despite his lofty MSRP, will you be adding one to your collection?
The single accessory for the price point is disappointing to say the least, but I really love the design and coloring of this figure. It’s very striking, much more so than the original BAF. So I bit the bullet and purchased it. Now if we can only get Crystal, Gorgon, Triton, Karnak and Lockjaw, I would be a very happy collector.
You make a very good case in bringing up the remainder of the Inhumans royal family in ML form from Hasbro and perhaps that will be the next Amazon exclusive pack but I’m actually OK with the MCU rendition of Ronan. If I knew for a fact that those were coming down the line sooner than later, I’d probably bite on this Ronan. But I’m pretty sure they’ll roll those characters out at some point. Lockjaw would be a prime BAF and even with the debacle known as the Inhumans TV show, there is definitely a market for the rest of the Inhumans. Thanks for making my wallet groan!
