One weekend! Two conventions! Two European countries! Four all-new Marvel Legends 2020 reveals! Hasbro brought the big guns to MCM London and Paris Comic Con this weekend, where they not only announced that the first two 2020 Marvel Legends figures series would go on sale on Monday, but they also revealed four never-before-seen action figures: Spymaster! Winter Soldier! And the Demogoblin and Super Skrull Build-A-Figures!
Hasbro has been spreading the love to as many conventions as possible this summer and fall, saving a couple big premieres for virtually every big event. And while we knew all the figures in the first 2020 Marvel Legends Spider-Man wave in August and all the Fantastic Four series figures at NYCC 2019, they kept the Build-A-Figures for each series under wraps… until now!
And that’s not all! Though we’ve still yet to have any kind of official announcement of a Black Widow Legends or Avengers Legends wave for next year, two new Black Widow-related figures made their debuts as well…
First up, let’s talk about a character that I think was long overdue for an upgrade: the new Marvel Legends Demogoblin Build-A-Figure!
As soon as this was shown off yesterday I immediately heard the grumbles from people about how this Demogoblin BAF is basically just a reuse of single-packed figure tooling, but I think the figure itself looks fantastic. The translucent flaming goblin glider (with flight stand!) makes this feel a bit premium to me, and I’m not surprised this didn’t cost out as an individual release.
With all the recent Maximum Carnage characters like Carnage, Doppelgänger Spider, Cloak & Dagger and now Demogoblin getting a release, it’s only a matter of time until we see Marvel Legends Shriek…
From a currently unspecified wave, we’ve got what’s sure to be one of the most obscure head-scratchers of 2020 for casual fans: Marvel Legends Spymaster!
An espionage expert and assassin, the classic Iron Man villain Spymaster would fit in nicely in a Marvel Legends Black Widow Series. I don’t imagine this figure is going to have mass appeal, so hopefully whatever wave he’s in will have a hot BAF to help push him off the shelves.
Almost certainly scheduled for the same wave as Spymaster, it’s the first comic book-based Winter Soldier Marvel Legends figure in what feels like eternity! While we’ve gotten tons of MCU Bucky Barnes love, it’ll feel good to finally have a long-haired comic ML Bucky figure available.
Finally, we’ve got a long demanded character headlining the Fantastic Four Legends series: the Super Skrull Build-A-Figure! With alternate flaming arm and invisible arm, this is one rocking, awesome figure.
It’s a bit of a shame that folks won’t really be able to army-build classic Skrulls due to the BAF nature of this Super Skrull, but perhaps we’ll see some of this tooling reused for a standard Skrull Soldier release down the road?
The Fantastic Four and Spider-Man Marvel Legends series both go on sale online on Monday October 28th (that’s tomorrow!), so stay tuned for direct links and notifications as soon as pre-orders are live. Hopefully individuals are available of the most popular characters like Vulture, but even if they are, they’re sure to sell out swiftly!
What do you think of this quartet of internationally-announced 2020 figures, Marvel Legends collectors? Are you contemplating buying the whole waves to build these new Demogoblin and Super Skrull Build-A-Figures? And if there is a Black Widow wave, what characters would you like to see fill it out?
Well, guess I’m getting the entire FF wave, after all…
i will get both sets and the BAF’s in the always growing Marvel Universe look forward to seeing what other figures they come up with. don’t understand the anger when they use pieces from other figures to make new one. that’s what a lot of the customized figures are made of.when i started collecting they were $4.99 now almost $ 30.00 dollars quality and design has improved buy what you like simple.
Super Skrull was the selling point as I was only looking to pick up Doom from this wave. I have all the Walgreens FF figures so I.was going to pass on the rest until this BAF was announced. I already planned to score the Spidey wave regardless of the BAF but I’m liking that, as well. Great way to come off the blocks for 2020!
Yes, Demogoblin! He looks awesome! Love that glider. Now if I could only get Shriek, Carrion, and Firestar figures.
Super Skrull and Bucky look great too. Spymaster is sort of eh, but I might get him, depending on the BAF.
As far as what I’d like to see in the BW wave… maybe some other S.H.I.E.L.D. characters (comic or MCU), Black Lotus, Iron Maiden, maybe comic versions of Black Order characters. Maybe even some Inhumans characters that are not Black Bolt or Medusa.
For the Black Widow wave, outside of MCU characters, maybe Madame Masque or Viper? Perhaps one of the Thunderbolts? Darkstar? Hopefully something really left field like Viv Vision or Dum-Dum Dugan.
These are all pretty underwhelming reveals for me. I’m not a big fan of Demogoblin, and I only want Shang Chi, Vulture, and White Rabbit from that wave. And Super Skrull looks ok, but I’m only interested in Dr. Doom since I have the Walgreens Fantastic Four. Winter Soldier and Spymaster, I have no ties to, since I never read them in any of my comics that I collected. I may pick them up depending on how good the BAF is for that wave.
I’m hoping we get a Skrull soldiers 2-pack like we did for Hydra and AIM. I feel like if we did get that it’d only be logical that we’d also get a second 2-pack army building pack and there are plenty of options – Hellfire Club soldiers, the Hand, Dark Elves, SHIELD Agents, SWORD Agents, the Brood, Kree soldiers.
So… they got me also with that Super Skrull. Had interest in only Doom. Now maybe I think about Doom and just getting SS on eBay… unless that costs the same amount as getting the whole wave anyway… But either way, I need Super Skrull to stand by my Sasquatch to recreate his appearance in Alpha Flight. Too bad they probably won’t have a classic Miss Marvel with early costume from Marvel Team-up with Spider-man and her fighting him. Alas.
SM: Not too excited about having to get two Gamerverse figures, but I want Demogoblin so I’ll just suck it up. My comic shop sells loose figures, so maybe I can get $5-10 for them. Whatever. They might have made a mistake not putting the flight stand with some sort of troop building figure, because I have a few goblins that could use one.
FF: As much as I want a Super Skrull figure, I really don’t want any of the other figures except Dr Doom. The Walgreens figures more than satisfy me. I’ll roll the dice that he’s either attainable after market (HA!) or gets a different release somewhere else
OMG! Demogoblin in his Maximum Carnage outfit! Absolute YES!
For Black Widow wave I’d love: MCU BW, MCU White Widow (plz!), MCU Taskmaster, Rachel Weisz character (whoever she might be, though getting a figure of her seems unlikely) and Red Guardian as BAF.
too many villains?! I hope for ML Grachomp , Rinmuru and Ironheart
