The next MCU movie won’t be hitting theaters for another 5 months, but Hasbro is wasting no time announcing their tie-in 6” figures wave for the film! Bringing us a surprisingly eclectic variety of characters, the Marvel Legends The Marvels series is now revealed and up for order—including an unexpected Amadeus Cho Hulk Build-A-Figure!

I have my doubts about how successful the upcoming The Marvels movie teaming up Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan will be (Ms. Marvel is the only Disney+ MCU series I actively hated), but just like almost every Marvel movie for the past decade, it will have a corresponding Marvel Legends wave.
And as the film itself is a bit of an odd couple team-up, it seems appropriate that the figure assortment is a really odd one as well! Joining three movie figures of the titular characters, we also get comics-based toys of two Avengers, an Inhuman, a Young Avenger and even a non-Bruce Banner Champions Hulk!
As this movie’s central characters are three heroines, it would be a total fail if Hasbro didn’t grant each of the trio an action figure in the Marvels Legends wave. As such, it should surprise no one that Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel and Photon are all represented in this wave.
I sort of forgot that Monica Rambeau hasn’t had an MCU figure of her own yet, but Marvel Legends Photon will remedy that. Monica has been a much more peripheral character than her co-stars, so I’m excited to see Photon given a more substantial role in this movie (and the hair on her figure looks awesome!).
I liked Ms. Marvel in the comics from the start, but I found her Disney+ portrayal to be overpoweringly annoying almost instantly. I’m personally not giddy about the character being featured in The Marvels (or having to buy another figure of her for a desirable BAF part), but I do really dig the full-on tentacle Flerken that she comes with.
I think Hasbro unfortunately horribly mangled the likeness on Kamala’s head sculpt with that awful smirk she’s sporting, though.
Carol Danvers started to grow on me a hair in End Game, and I’m hopeful I can continue liking her in The Marvels when she’s sharing the spotlight. This is another long-haired Captain Marvel figure, which I think the market can support four years after her solo film.
Carol gets some (basic) energy effects this time, which are much appreciated for her power set.
The two most iconic Avengers make a guest appearance in this wave to perhaps mitigate some of its “riskiness”: niche variants of Captain America and Iron Man. Commander Steve Rogers was in the inaugural Hasbro “Return of Marvel Legends” Terrax wave in 2012, but he’s back in this wave on a much more modern, updated body.
I actually really, really liked that original Commander Rogers figure, but I’m all for seeing old figures brought up to modern standards. The translucent energy shield this Cap comes with is awesome as always.
Iron Man gets a new figure in his Heroes Return armor in this wave, although Hasbro whiffs it a bit by not giving him all pin-less joints.
Heroes Return Iron Man does have a nice retro feel to him, and I doubt anyone otherwise building Amadeus Cho Hulk will be swayed not to by the mismatched joints.
In a super rare move, an Inhuman other than Black Bolt or Medusa makes an appearance in this wave!
Marvel Legends Karnak absolutely-reeks- of “pegwarmer” to me, but hopefully this is a precursor to the Lockjaw that fans have long cried out for.
Another unlikely entrant in this wave is Marvel Legends Marvel Boy (Noh-Var). I believe the connection his inclusion is based on his being a Kree, which ties into Carol Danvers’ Kree history.
The Grant Morrison created character has been a Young Avenger and a love interest for Kate Bishop Hawkeye, so he’s about due for a better toy after the weird Protector figure years back in the Hit Monkey Series.
The chosen Build-A-Figure for this wave is one of my favorites in quite a while: the Totally awesome Hulk, Amadeus Cho!
The super-genius teen, Amadeus Cho, is a character I’ve always really, really liked, and as a founding member of the Champions team that Kamala Khan led, his placement in this series makes complete sense thematically. I won’t hold my breath for teen Chclops and Viv Vision to complete the team, but I sure would love it if those characters were released as toys!
Hulk variations are always popular, so hopefully a Totally Awesome Hulk BAF can bring some extra oomph to a wave that otherwise might struggle at retail.
The Marvel Legends The Marvels Series is now up for pre-order, and is scheduled to ship this summer. What do you think of this very unpredictable Marvel Legends The Marvels series? Will you be collecting any of the heroes in this wave, or even building the Totally Awesome Hulk BAF itself?
I find this wave dull and boring and the only figures I would get is Karnak because he’s new and Photon but with her original costume 2-Pack coming out I just don’t have room for this one.
Wow! For 2023, Hasbro gives us two Starjammers and now another Inhuman. I’ve preordered Karnak and Marvel Boy. I’m not the biggest Grant Morrison fan, but I really enjoyed Marvel Boy, so I’m stoked for this figure. I can pass on the movie figures, Iron Man, Commander Rogers and totally awesome Hulk. I don’t need any more Caps, Iron Mans or Hulks in my collection.
My only interest here is Karnak. I guess because I’m old and really only care about comics until about 1995. Silver and Bronze Age for me, thank you.
Things past that have to really knock my socks off. It’s really nice when I don’t care one iota for the BAF choice in a wave though. Freedom to just pick one or two figures and ignore the rest. Sweet.
I enjoyed the Ms. Marvel series quite a bit, even though I’m old and don’t care about recent comics. I did read about a dozen of her comics though. She’s a rare character they’ve created recently that has worked for me. In the TV show, I dug the humor. I immediately loved the actress they cast. I’m looking forward to The Marvels more than any MCU project since Endgame (I’ve liked Carol Danvers in the movies also). However… Kamala’s figure here looks like garbage. The face is just something I hope to never see again. Hideous. How did it make it past the prelim stages for this figure design? This should have never been released like this.
Lastly, I would support a law that prevents Marvel Legends from making another Captain America or Iron Man figure again for at least three years. A three year wait between figures for those two guys in particular. They are taking up space in too many waves, and there are already 43 versions of each sold in the last 5 years. It’s beyond overkill.
Hope we get a Dar-ben figure!
Agreed on all of this except I still read current comics. I’m pretty sure that there’s some licensing agreement that forces them to produce and reproduce certain figures. Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man and Wolverine immediately come to mind. Way too many versions with slight upgrades. We really don’t need any more.
Monica is pretty much the only figure here I really want, other than the BAF. Guess I’ll have to get most of these for Amadeus.
Really hope they make Viv Vision and Teen Cyclops down the line, to complete the Champions line-up.
